God speaks
It seems impossible yet God speaks to us to make us know his will and what are the paths to follow in our life to reach holiness.
To listen to his voice we need to stop the turmoil in our lives.

How can He express himself with words?
There is the risk of confusing "one's" words for the word of God but it is certain that God has manifested himself in the most important events in history, as reported in the Old Testament, and by examining each event that has occurred over time it is possible to recognize its tracks. God wanted to make himself known through the words, dreams and visions of which Sacred Scripture speaks and while in ancient times He spoke through the prophets, today he speaks to man through the power of the word of the Son.
At that time the Jewish people had discovered that they had been called to listen, as reported throughout the Old Testament in which we find this refrain reiterated through the centuries: "listen Israel, listen to the Lord, the Lord your God". In today's days, faced with the Word of the Son of God, how is it possible to perceive what he says and what he asks? The answer is always the same, to listen because we need to take a clear position. Preparing to listen is therefore essential to adhere entirely to God's call.
God did not speak to communicate vague ideas, he did not reveal a book but a person, and as the apostles saw, heard, touched and contemplated, even now everyone has the opportunity to give meaning to their life and history. The act of faith therefore arises from the awareness that the word of God is salvation, truth and liberation.
In the second letter to the Corinthians, Paul writes: "if our Gospel remains veiled, it is for those who are lost, to whom the God of this world has blinded the unbelieving mind, so that they may not see the splendor of the glorious gospel of Christ which is image of God. In fact, we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; as for us, we are your servants for the sake of Jesus. And God, who said, "Let the light shine out of darkness, "shone in our hearts, to let the knowledge of the divine glory that shines upon the face of Christ shine forth.
"Listening is required to grasp the word of God and follow in his footsteps, it presupposes the interior availability to accept that word and allows us to perceive the sense of God's presence. The word is revealed to the one who manages to open his heart and make yourself available to welcome it. The Fathers of the Church reiterate that, in coming, the word of God is shortened, in listening to it often a few syllables or the end are lost and for this reason humility is required in order to be able to welcome it in its entirety, to overcome any resistance of one's heart.
Does God speak personally to every creature?
How many times have these thoughts arisen: “I confided my problems to him, I asked him to answer my why and then I was amazed at his silence… because God is silent, does not intervene, does not defend me, does not clarify? Why this silence? ”. Yet God speaks and one only needs to learn to hear his voice in the turmoil of one's life.
The story of the prophet Elijah is enlightening, he had fled from Queen Jezabel who threatened him with death, then took refuge on Mount Oreb and waited for God to manifest himself: "when the word of the Lord was addressed to him: "Go out and stop on the mountain in the presence of the Lord".
And behold, the Lord passed by. There was a mighty wind that would split the mountains and break the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake, a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. After the fire, the whisper of a light breeze. As she heard it, Elia covered her face with her cloak, went out of her and stopped at the entrance to the cave".
God did not manifest himself in the signs and great noises of nature but in the sweet silence of a breath of wind that caresses his face: the prophet experiences God in silence.
God is not silent but, chosen by him, he wishes to reveal himself only in silence, to be sought assiduously, and gives himself to be known only to those who seek him. Therefore, the interior life cannot be allowed to be occupied by sounds and chatter, otherwise there will be no more space for the One who will arrive with a silent step; He will be careful that you hear it coming and will stop only if you have time to listen to it, otherwise he will pass on.
God speaks with the reality of his being and does not need to speak with words, even though he might; it is expressed through his works and the silent action on the soul, moving the heart, inclining the sensitivity and illuminating the mind.
He can also speak through the language of prayer which is ultimately that mysterious way that cannot be examined but whose effects of change in the heart can be perceived. Precisely in prayer the mystery of the encounter between the I and God is hidden and the way in which He speaks to the soul and to the intellect goes beyond human capacity, it is not possible to fully understand it: "Superb for me your wisdom, too high, and I do not understand it".
(Ps 139, 6).
God speaks at the most hidden and mysterious point of being, where the heartbeat of one's heart is enclosed or where the consciousness that is the essence of being is enclosed.
Prayer cannot be the expression of sentimentality but must be the manifestation of faith that includes ardent love for God, He speaks when he wants and we cannot direct his action in souls.
