The illness
Disease and Gospel
In some passages of the Gospel it emerges that in that context Satan is the cause of physical illness. In fact, it is said that when the devil is driven out of the body, the disease disappears and the believer acquires health. It is in the power of the Devil to generate diseases of a physical and psychic order, without there being any obvious elements that highlight his work.

Diseases of the Demon
Demons are always looking to occupy space in our minds in order to influence our thought life, or to attack us in our personal vulnerabilities and weaknesses. They are invaders and when they act in us they create a sad, dark and depressing atmosphere and demolish any situation of happiness.
There are ways that many ignore by which these demons try to occupy our minds by exploiting those breaches that we unconsciously keep open and through these they find access to torment us. These gaps are the lack of forgiveness or voluntary sin, in fact when we voluntarily live outside the moral boundaries of God, we put ourselves in a condition that allows demons to enter us.
The parable of the prodigal son is illuminating: The youngest of the children asks the Father for the part of the patrimony that belongs to him. The Father gave him what he asked, and then gathered all the money, he went to a distant country, to be able to live as he pleased without being seen by his father. Here is the attitude of the sinner who, not wanting to bear the gentle yoke of God, turns away from him, and abuses the gifts and benefits received by adding sins to sins, and immersed in carnal pleasures does not think about the future.
Leaving his father's house, this son hoped to find happiness, but he soon found himself surrounded by extreme misery. Here is the dynamics of sin seen as a separation from the father and which leads him to the loss of all his dignity. Satan bewitches the sinner with the offer of absolute freedom, with no prohibitions whatsoever, without any limit other than his own whim. And so he makes him go away from God. But the consequence is a terrible slavery to vice and sin, in which everything is lost: dignity, freedom, security, joy.
When famine came, it began to lack the necessary. In fact, the joys of the sinner are short, and no good created is enough to satiate the human soul. Then he became totally dependent on one of the citizens. He was sent to feed pigs as a keeper. The cruel master to whom this unhappy young man is subjected is the devil: the shameful ministry entrusted to him means the profound degradation of the soul enslaved by his lowest passions: the most vile food, which cannot satisfy his pleasures. and the satisfactions of brutal appetites, which cannot fill a heart.
Then having come to his senses, seeing the horror of the abyss into which he had fallen, the sinner thinks back on the goodness of his father, and decided to free himself from the bondage of the devil and go and throw himself at his father's feet, confessing his own guilt, and begging for his mercy. He repented and returned to his father who welcomed him with joy.
Here then is that in order to close these doors we must repent of the sins committed, and undertake the journey of faith towards Jesus. Jesus said: repent! Without repentance we will never see God. The journey begins in knowing the word of God, then knowing the truth and finally in using that truth as a weapon to be pronounced with our mouth, to free ourselves from the evil.
In addition to the influence operated in the spiritual field, demons can sometimes cause real psychic and physical illnesses or even hide behind paralysis or physical impediments of various kinds, as reported in the Gospels:
They presented him to Jesus a mute possessed by a demon. Cast out the Devil, that mute began to speak (Mt 9:32) and again, a blind and mute demon-possessed man was brought to him, and he healed him, so that the mute spoke and saw .
(Mt 12,22).
He was teaching in the synagogue on the Sabbath day. There was a woman there who had had a spirit that kept her sick for eighteen years; she was bent over and could not stand up in any way. Jesus saw her, called her to himself and said to her: "Woman, you are free" and placed her hands on her. Immediately she straightened up and glorified God ... And Jesus said: This daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept tied up eighteen years, could not be released from this bond on Saturday?
(Lc 13,10-13.16).
We still read in the Gospel: A man approached Jesus who, falling on his knees, said to him: «Lord, have mercy on my son. He is epileptic and suffers a lot; he often falls into fire and often also into water; I have already brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him. " And Jesus answered: «O incredulous and perverse generation! How long will I stay with you? How long will I have to put up with you? Bring him here to me ». And Jesus threatened the unclean spirit saying: "dumb and deaf spirit, I order you, get out of him and never come back" and the Devil came out of him and the boy was healed from that moment.
(Mt 17,14-21).
In these cases it is Jesus himself who says that the Devil was the cause of the infirmities of these unhappy people, in fact as soon as they are freed they heal from all their ills. These diseases are the consequence of the evil that lurked in their hearts, made possible by our distancing from the Word of God and so we lose faith and inevitably slip into sin, and it is an unstoppable descent into the darkness that opens the way to satan. Unfortunately in these times the devil is considered only a symbol of evil, and as such he is considered harmless and is ignored, and thus he is free to act undisturbed.
It is impressive how the Devil can cause: diseases, physical and mental impairments such as silence, deafness, blindness, paralysis, epilepsy, depression. We must not be intimidated by these spirits because we know that Jesus is the Lord, every knee will bend and every tongue will confess that Jesus is the Lord.
If you suffer from ailments of suspected demonic origin, it is possible to pray to God that he will permanently free us from the evil spirit and from the ailments associated with it. There are many testimonies of people with rare diseases who are healed through the prayer of healing and deliverance. Many times Jesus says: "your faith saves you, go in peace be healed!". He then adds in other episodes in the gospel: "Do you think I can do this?"
The authority of the word of God shatters the power of demons. Jesus defeated the devil in the wilderness by speaking the word of God.
When the apostles went to Jesus about that one demon they had not been able to cast out. Jesus replied: This demon will not be cast out except by prayer and fasting. To be effective we must exercise both, the authority we have and the power that comes through trust in God. Walking with him with prayer and all the other disciplines of faith.
Truly only God can deliver: "Whoever commits sin is a slave to sin. Now the slave does not stay in the house forever, but the son always stays there; therefore if the Son sets you free you will be free indeed ".
(Jn 8,34-36).
