Antonio Galvao

Pills

Saint Many people came to Friar Galvão for healing. During one of these visits, inspired by God, the friar wrote the following Latin phrase on a piece of paper: "Post partum Virgo Inviolata permansisti: Dei Genitrix intercede pro nobis"

which means: After giving birth, O Virgin, you remained intact: Mother of God, intercede for us!.

Friar Galvão's Pills

Then he rolled up the paper like a pill and gave it to a young man who was dying of renal colic, and the pain immediately stopped. A man came to him asking for prayers and medicine for his wife, who was suffering from labor pains. Friar Galvão remade the pill, and the baby was born shortly thereafter. From that moment on, he had to teach the brothers of the Recolhimento how to make pills and give them to those in need.
This is the origin of the miraculous pieces of paper that the Monastery still provides today to those who have faith in the intercession of the Servant of God.

MONASTERY OF LIGHT

One of Fra Galvã's great achievements; or was the construction of the Monastery of Our Lady of the Conception of Light. This convent was begun in 1774. To obtain the necessary funds for the construction of the Fra Galvã monastery; or he often went on foot throughout the Paulista territory. He designed the frontispiece of the church of Luz, but the friar's works surpass the architecture of the church. It influenced the spiritual orientation of the first nuns and the statute of the Concepcionist Order. In this the Franciscan charism and the conceptionist ideal are mixed. In the Church of the Monastery of Light, there are the remains of Fra Galvã or, who died on 23 December 1822 with a reputation for sanctity. The tomb is visited every day by countless devotees who leave requests and flowers of thanks there for the graces received. The monumental work built by Fra Galvã or continues to grow with the foundation of several other convents.

BEATIFICATION

In 1998, Friar Galvão was beatified by Pope John Paul II as a "Man of Peace and Charity" and "Patron of Civil Construction in Brazil." In the beatification process, 27,800 graces were documented, some of which were miraculous. Among these was the case of a four-year-old girl, Daniela, who, in 1990 in São Paulo, suffered from bronchopulmonary complications and seizures. Admitted to intensive care, she was diagnosed with hepatic encephalopathy due to hepatitis A, acute renal failure, metochloropramida intoxication, and hypertension. After 13 days in the hospital, her family asked the friars of the Monastery of Light for prayers and pills. After praying, the friars gave the little girl Friar Galvão's pills. On June 13th, Daniela left intensive care, and a week later, the hospital, fully recovered. The pediatrician had no doubts about her recovery, and in fact declared to the Ecclesiastical Tribunal: "Divine intervention was present; not only was she cured of her illness, but she also made a complete recovery." Friar Galvão was beatified on October 25, 1998.

CANONIZATION

Brother Galvão was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on May 11, 2007, during the pontiff's visit to Brazil. The official announcement was made on December 16, 2006. The case that led to his canonization occurred in the case of Mrs. Sandra Grossi de Almeida and her son, Enzo de Almeida Gallafassi, from the city of São Paulo. Mrs. Sandra, who had already had three miscarriages due to a uterine malformation, discovered in May that she was pregnant again and knew she could die from a hemorrhage. She refused to heed the doctor's advice to terminate the pregnancy, and continued with the procedure until, in December, a cesarean section was decided due to the high risk. A baby boy was born with very serious respiratory problems, but her condition was resolved that same month. The favorable outcome was attributed to the intercession of Blessed Friar Galvão, whom the family and Sandra invoked with constant novenas at the beginning and throughout the pregnancy, and with Sandra taking pills, confident of his help. During the diocesan process, the doctors unanimously agreed that the event was "scientifically inexplicable according to current scientific developments." The Holy Father authorized the promulgation of the Decree on December 16, 2006. The name of the first Brazilian saint is "Santo Antonio de Sant'Anna Galvão," commonly known as San Fra Galvão.
