Naturally, dental treatment applications are increasing, but there are still few dentists and dental technicians that operate in developing countries. The majority of these operates in big urban agglomerations where they offer expensive service only to people that can afford it.

 

This elaboration wants to contribute to the development of a new technical specialization that helps in the creation

of new and promising job possibilities allowing a greater number of people to have qualified services at low cost.

 

Training in the country is itself preferable to training in artificial condition abroad. The establishment of a National Training Center for dental technicians is an important aspect of manpower development. Training abroad should be considered only for highly qualified staff and, even then, only if local facilities are inadequate or do not exist. Within the country, training should take place under conditions as close as possible to those in which the person(s) will serve. It should be task-oriented and include the use and maintenance of the equipment. Supervision and opportunity for continuing education are essential.
