Vertical cave, probabably one of the water swallows that in the past supplied abundantly the resurgence of the Bossea Cave. After the descent of the external sub-vertical canyon 100 m deep, we arrive to the narrow entrance and, after the initial bottlenecks of the first meander 15 m long, we arrive above the grandiose "Pozzo del Bagatto"
, 90 m high; at the basis of this pit, after a jump of about 20 m, follow a pit 45 m deep called "Pozzo di Will Coyote" (Will Coyote Pit). We reach so the depth of about 200 m down from the entrance and here begins the "Meandro delle Azzorre" (Azores meander), tormented tunnel sub-horizzontal on which muddy floor there are some little water basins. It's on the surface of these basins that the author found in 1995 a specimen of troglobite mite, belonging to the genus Rhagidia, that shows very remarkable features of adaptation to the hypogean life. This acarus is already indetermined, but probably belongs to an unpublished species. The author found in this cave also troglobite spiders (Troglohyphantes cfr. pluto) in the entrance meander, troglobite Diplopoda, probably Crossosoma cavernicola, some Collembola and, about 340 m down from the entrance, a specimen of Sphodropsis ghilianii, troglophile Carabidae that is a biological proof of the fact that to this depth the tunnels of the cave are near the external surface of the mountain, as showed also by rests of Trichoptera on the walls and a lot of bat's bones in the substratus.BIBLIOGRAPHY |
