Arthropoda, Diplopoda, Chordeumatida

Diplopoda, Chordeumatida, Craspedosomatidae, Crossosoma cavernicola (Manfredi, 1951) - Troglobite well specialized Diplopod, completely blind, with antennas and legs longer then in the genus Plectogona; the Crossosoma genus is widespread in most of the central-southern Piemontese Alps in cold caves, higher than 1000 m above the sea level. It is a general saprophage like other representative of the Craspedosomatidae family. In this species, with middle size, we can well appreciate the metachronal movement of the legs that allow the walking of the animal with progressive kinetic wave. (Real size: 25÷30 mm).
