Arthropoda, Arachnida, Araneae

Arachnida, Araneae, Linyphiidae - Troglohyphantes pluto Di Caporiacco, 1938 - Is a troglobite spider a little bigger than T. pedemontanus; it is an endemite of the Caudano Caves, in the Maudagna Valley. This spiders are well adapted to the hypogean life and weave cobwebs effective to capture the Diptera that are their main food, but they feed any little Arthropod that falls in their webs. The author has recently documented (Nov. 2000) the predation of an Insect Coleoptera Carabidae Trechinae made by a spider of the species T. konradi in the Vernante's subterraneans. The legs' length of these spiders is another troglobite character that make them adapted to live in the dark. (Real size of the body: 4,5÷5 mm).
