Arthropoda, Insecta, Trichoptera

Insecta, Trichoptera, Limnephilidae, Stenophylax sp. - The Trichoptera are insects with wide diffusion on the italian territory, sometime troglophile. The specimen in the photo has been photographed in the cave "Tana della Volpe" (Lair of the fox) (288 Pi/CN) in the Casotto Valley. The fishermans know the aquatic larvas of this animals very widespread in our rivers: they are the "stone-holders", that made a case of sand grains for protect the abdomen. The adult are instead visible with difficulty, because they are night animals; in the caves they are relatively frequent and stay on the walls where often they are in copulation. Like the other entities of the wall fauna, they spend the daytime and winter in hypogean environment. (Real size: 20÷25 mm).
