Workshop n. 6 THE SOCIAL ECONOMY IN ITALY: DIVERSITY AS A MATTER OF LOCAL DEVELOPMENT |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||

DIVERSITY AS A MATTER OF LOCAL
DEVELOPMENT The law 381 of 1991, formalised
the concept of social economy in Italy. Before this law a number of
co-operatives and associations worked in the social field without having any
formal recognition from public authorities. The concept of social co-operative,
as a consequence, has been introduced together with the social nature of the
general purposes of this kind of enterprise. For the first time the human
being acquired a value and with it the complexity of the context in which people
live. Since that period it has been possible to start to talk about local
community, an environment rich of resources, problems and potentials to be
exploited by using the mean of co-operation, the social co-operation. This workshop will explore the different aspects of social economy, the widest concept of local community co-operation, as well as some relevant experiences in matter of local community development in difficult contexts, where diversity has represented the engine of a new model of economic development and social cohesion.
