Milan 1988 with 14 municipal nursery schools:  Flying with Honeybees we discover the natural World.

With the TRAPPER co-op, first we teach the teachers about trees and flowers in the city, for outdoor watching, and about possible information, games and works to do in schools with the 5 years old children about the fantastic world of bees

Then we go in the schools and make the children to play the bees in all their different roles, from the workers through the soldiers, the drones and the queen (that always moves in the cells laying eggs!) So the bee-children tend the queen and the young, ventilate and clean the hive, visit flowers in search of pollen (they actually take flour with a little spoon) and nectar (they suck water and sugar with a drinking-straw), and fight whenever someone want to come in their house not having the same “scent” (before beginning to play, we dropped perfume on every child's hand, and the teacher, just for an instance, do not scent the same!) And the queen? She moves in the cells laying eggs!

The drones meanwhile hang about doing nothing, until a new queen is grown, so they can “fly” at last after her because they want to merry!

When days later we all go to visit a didactic hive, seeing the town of the bees through the glass they recognise almost everything, and when the man of the bees, for joking, tells something wrong, they correct him!

More than 600 children gone to see the bees, and no one stung!

With honeybees in this page, we can see two wild cousins:  wool carder bee (black and yellow) and giant carpenter bee (the black one).
