Maccagno's Family Departure

Msr Karen told me that in that period (1914) Francesco Maccagno came back from America to bring with themself all His family.

In the restaurant thet they menaged some people was talking about a possible arrive the war in Europe.

Afraid for this sad presage; Francesco does’nt wanted go in war, but at the same time Giovanna did not want leave Her country.

She was happy for Her life in Villafalletto. Here She grewed up Her sons and worked in a restaurant
of success.

Francesco, instead, decided to return in America even against Giovanna’s wills, thinked to a stratagem to ralize all this.

He become to get a passport for His greater son Lorenzo to the unknowed of mather.

He was very sly to abtain passport, using the name of His mather Audiso. He studied a plan for the travel, but about all this nothing was knowed from Giovanna until last time before to leave.

When all was ready, few moments before to leave, Francesco sayd this announcement to the wife:
“Giovanna, I’m leaving forever for America and I take with myself Lorenzo. If You want resee again your son, You know what do” Giovanna was very shocked and darkened by this event and for the idea to leave Her village, Her parents.

Francesco shipped on “Taormina” ship from Genova port to arrive at Ellis Island, New York, the 26th of August 1914.
Their destination was Delano, in California, a town very close to Tulare.

After this fact, Giovanna decided to follow Her housband and her son in America.
He sold her activity and dispose Her famoňy for travel.

An year later, the 24th September 1915, Giovanna with sons Caterina, Giovanni e Francesco, landed to Ellis island with 50 $ in bag and a train ticket to Tulare.

They have been travelled to New World on the ship “Taormina”, alright like Their relatives an year ago.

In 1918 (three years later) they relocated to Page and rented 30 acres of land and raised turkeys, chickens, 30 cows and 3 ducks.
