What is it? What is it for? How to use it?
(general instructions)
The FOCUS is an object inserted
between the reed (or head-joint or mouthpiece whit reed) and the body of the
instrument. He makes only one sound. He doesn't make a melody
because the air doesn't go in the instrument but comes out from the laterals
holes.
The aim is to point out the flow of
air, its speed, its quantity and its possible alterations or discontinuities
caused, for example, by movements of throat, embouchure or other elements.
The musician feigns to play and he can
concentrate himself on the exact product of his emission.
The FOCUS gives greater
consciousness of this flow and permits a deep mastery.
Excellent musicians use it and they
recommend it.

HOW TO USE IT
With the FOCUS, the musician plays normally (he blows the air and he
moves the fingers like when he plays the instrument) but, he listens only one
note (the sound of first part of instrument). Listening this sound he can
understand a lot of things and he can get various results.
For example:
- He can notice the speed of the air that blows into the instrument when
he plays a certain tone or a phrase;
Normally (except in the clarinet) the intonation goes up when the melody
goes up and vice versa: this variation of intonation in different octaves changes
according the placement each school. The FOCUS allows fronting other musicians
to listen which tone they play (colour and pitch) at the source.
Thanks to the FOCUS you get used to create the sound and the melody
starting from the breath and from the air that comes out of you and goes
through the instrument. In any case you can take back to memory this action,
you can re-focus yourself on the emission.
The FOCUS has received gratifying references by some excellent Italian
musicians: first players in orchestra, master-class teachers, and soloists.
The FOCUS is an instrument that has to
be used only a few minutes a day: it will be enough to attain great results.
