STORIA (American version)
Nel programma dell'anno 1915 la Marina inglese aveva incluso 5 incrociatori leggeri da 9.750 tonnellate: Hawkins, Cavendish, Raleigh, Effingham e Frobisher, ma in periodo bellico fu varato solo l'Hawkins mentre la costruzione del Cavendish fu sospesa e lo scafo completato come " incrociatore leggero-portaerei »; il nome fu cambiato in Vindictive e venne varato il 17 gennaio 1918.
Gli altri incrociatori di questa classe erano stati progettati per la caccia alle navi tedesche che facevano la guerra al traffico in Atlantico, per questa ragione superavano i 29 nodi di velocità e avevano una notevole autonomia poiché non sarebbero stati in grado di rifornirsi sempre di nafta, all'epoca non disponibile in tutti i porti, ebbero 4 caldaie a nafta e 4 a carbone.
Dovevano essere armati con 7 cannoni da 190 mm, due a prora e tre a poppa nel piano di simmetria e due ai lati del fumaiolo poppiero e avere due alberi, quello di prora a tripode e quello di poppa a palo, e due fumaioli, quello di prora più grande di quello di poppa.
La protezione a murata era costituita da una corazza in cintura dello spessore di 76 mm al centro, riducentesi a 63 mm alle estremità, e da una striscia sopra il livello del ponte principale dello spessore di 51 mm al centro e 37 mm alle estremità.
Il ponte di coperta era corazzato nella sola zona centrale con spessore di 25 mm; un altro ponte corazzato da 37 mm si trovava a poppa sopra il locale del timone. La trasformazione in portaerei fu decisa quando lo scafo era già stato costruito così che non fu possibile eliminare i fumaioli e l'unità venne completata sulle linee del Furious seconda versione, cioè con un ponte di decollo a prora e uno di appontaggio a poppa, fra i quali si alzavano la sovrastruttura centrale, un albero a tripode e due fumaioli, mentre sul Furious ce n'era uno solo.
I due ponti di volo erano collegati tra loro con una sola passerella sul lato sinistro. L 'unità aveva mantenuto la corazzatura sulle murate e sul ponte previste per la sua destinazione di incrociatore. L'armamento fu costituito da 4 cannoni da 190 mm sistemati uno a prua e uno a poppa, più due ai Iati del fumaiolo poppiero, tutti a livello del ponte di coperta; i 4 cannoni da 76 mm erano due ai lati del ponte di comando e due in coperta a poppa; gli altri 4 cannoni da 76 mm a.a. erano invece in una postazione sopraelevata fra i due fumaioli.
Vi erano anche 6 tubi lancia- siluri, 2 subacquei e 4 sopracquei sistemati in coperta. L 'apparato motore era costituito da 4 gruppi di turbine a ingranaggi, azionanti 4 eliche, alimentati da 12 caldaie metà a nafta e metà carbone. L'aviorimessa era sistemata sotto il ponte di volo poppiero. Vi era un solo elevatore a poppa, e il ponte di volo prodiero era servito da due alberi di carico ai lati.
Aveva gli stessi difetti del Furious e dopo l'entrata in servizio nell'ottobre 1918 rimase inattiva in attesa che si definisse il suo futuro. Nel 1923 fu deciso di ritrasformarla in incrociatore, mantenendo però un'aviorimessa per 2 aerei, una catapulta e una gru.
I lavori di trasformazione durarono dal 1923 al 1925 e l'unità divenne uguale alle altre della classe, solo che l'armamento fu di 6 cannoni da 190 mm invece che 7, per la presenza dell'aviorimessa al posto del secondo cannone di prua. La Vindictive fu trasformata in nave scuola nel 1937, in nave officina nel 1940 e fu radiata e venduta nel 1946.
HISTORY
In the program of the year 1915 the Marina English had included 5 light cruisers from 9750 tons: Hawkins, Cavendish, Raleigh, Effingham and Frobisher, but in war period the Hawkins was launched while only the construction of the Cavendish was suspended and the completed hull as " cruiser light-aircraft carrier»; the name was changed in Vindictive and you/he/she was launched January 17 th 1918.

The armament was constituted by 4 guns by 190 systematized mms one to bow and one to stern, more two to the Hiatuses of the chimney poppiero, all to level of the bridge of cover; the 4 guns from 76 mms were two to the sides of the bridge of command and two in cover to stern; the other 4 guns from 76 mms a.a. they were instead in a posting sopraelevata among the two chimneys.
There were also 6 pipes it launches - torpedos, 2 scuba divers and 4 sopracqueis systematized in coperta.L 'apparatus motor was constituted by 4 groups of gears whirlwind, azionanti 4 helixes, fed by 12 boilers naphtha half and met ~ to coal.
The hangar was systematized under the bridge of flight poppiero.
There was only an elevator to stern and the bridge of flight prodiero you/he/she had served from two trees of load to the sides.
It had the same defects of the Furious and after the entrance on call in October 1918 he/she was inactive in attended that its future was defined.
In 1923 it was definite of ritrasformarla in cruiser, maintaining however a hangar for 2 airplanes, a catapult and a crane.
The jobs of transformation had lasted since 1923 to 1925 and the unity it became equal to the others of the class, only that the armament was instead of 6 guns from 190 mms that 7, for the presence of the hangar to the place of the second gun of bow.
The Vindictive was turned into ship school in 1937, in ship shop in 1940 and you/he/she was removed and sold in 1946.
