La Charles De Gaulle è l'unica portaerei convenzionale, non quindi portaelicotteri o dotata di aerei a decollo verticale come l'Ark Royal inglese, ad essere stata costruita e varata in Europa negli ultimi vent'anni.
Dovrebbe essere la risposta francese alle portaerei americane, l'ambizioso sogno della grandeur francese.
Innanzitutto dobbiamo dire che per stazza si avvicina più alle portaelicotteri della classe Tarawa che ad una portaerei della classe Nimitz, quindi si può definire una portaerei di medie dimensioni adatta a trasportare uno stormo medio (40 aerei contro gli 80 dell'Enterprise, ad esempio).
La differenza fra le due tipologie di portaerei è evidente ed è ben dimostrata dalle fotografie che le ritraggono appaiate.
L'unico elemento di comunione con le portaerei americane consiste nell'utilizzo della propulsione nucleare, caso unico anche questo per le portaerei europee.
In dieci anni di carriera la portaerei ha partecipato con successo a numerose missioni di guerra (Enduring Freedom, in Afghanistan, nella crisi tra India e Pakistan....) comportandosi egregiamente.
La carriera era però iniziata molto male a causa del lievitare sproporzionato dei costi (vedere aumento di lunghezza del ponte di volo, sistemazioni al reattore, eliche) e di incidenti vari che l'hanno sollevato grandi polemiche in Francia sia livello politico che militare.
Vedremo in futuro cosa sarà in grado di fare.... ai posteri l'ardua sentenza!
Dopo un inizio stentato la nave ha preso finalmente il largo!
FINAL SENTENCE OF THE SHINANO
The Charles De Gaulle is the only conventional aircraft carrier, not therefore portaelicotteri or endowed with airplanes to vertical take-off as the Ark Royal English, to have been built and launched in Europe in the last twenty years (we are on call waiting for the entrance of the "our" Aircraft carrier Cavour's Count).
You/he/she should be the French answer to the American aircraft carriers the ambitious dream of the French grandeur.
We first of all have to say that for tonnage it draws near more to the portaelicotteris of the class Tarawa that to an aircraft carrier of the class Nimitz, therefore an aircraft carrier of averages dimensions you/he/she can be defined it suits for to transport a middle flock (40 airplanes against the 80 of the Enterprise, for instance).
The difference among the two typologies of aircraft carrier is evident and it is well shown from the photos that they withdraw her couple.
The only element of communion with the American aircraft carriers consists in the use of the nuclear propulsion, unique case also this for the European aircraft carriers.
In ten years of career the aircraft carrier has participated with success in numerous missions of war (Enduring Freedom, in Afghanistan, in the crisis between India and Pakistan....) dearly behaving itself.
The career however was begun very bad because of to leaven disproportionate of the costs (to see increase of length of the bridge of flight, setups to the reactor, helixes) and of various accidents that great polemics have lifted him in France both political that military level.
We will see in expectancy thing it will be able to do.... to the posteris the arduous sentence!
After a difficult beginning the ship has finally taken the breadth!
