La portaerei Varyag, gemella dell'Admiral Kuznetsov" rappresenta la prima vera portaerei "tuttoponte" della Marina Cinese.
Acquistata dalla Marina Ucraina ufficialmente come Casinò galleggiante, dovrebbe in realtà diventare il prototipo delle future portaerei della Marina Cinese.
Portata dall'Ucraina come una "scatola vuota", senza motori ed armi è da sette anni in bacino di carenaggio per essere completata.
I cinesi non sono rimasti con le mani in mano ed hanno provveduto a completare la nave. Nel 2012 c'è stato il primo appontaggio e dal novembre del 2016, a ben 31 anni dall'impostazione dello scafo, è finalmente operativa.
Vedremo come si comporterà in azione. (Shinano).
