Arthropoda, Arachnida, Opiliones

Arachnida, Opiliones, Ischyropsalidae, Ischyropsalis sp. - It is an eutroglophile opilion discovered by the author in 1993 in the cave "La Custreta" in the low Locana Valley (Valley of the Orco river) on the slopes of the "Punta d'Arbella" Mons. It is a species, like those belonging to the same genus, adapted to live in cold caves, with scarce trophic resources (oligotrophics). It seems that in the cave "La Custreta" there are two species, both new for science, belonging to this genus (Tedeschi, verbal notice). Several specimens of these opilions captured by the author are actually in study and are object of a revision of the geographic distribution of the genus that appear much more rich of species, after the search on most of the piemontese territory and in Aosta Valley. Probably, the specimens that the author picked up in another cavity of the Locana Valley, the cave "Boo' d'la Faia" belong to the same species. (Real size of the body: 5-6 mm; legspan: about 5-6 cm).
