Arthropoda, Arachnida, Opiliones

Arachnida, Opiliones, Ischyropsalidae, Ischyropsalis cfr. carli - It is an eutroglophile opilion found by the author in 1998 in the Candoglia Cave in the lower Toce Valley; this cavity has its openings among the trenches of exploitation of the "Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano" (Factory of the Milan Cathedral) which direction has kindly allowed us the access in this restricted area. The author found already in 1994 several specimens probably belonging to this species in a mine of the Bavarione Mons, above the "Lago Maggiore" (Major Lake), in the "Caverna dell'Om Salvei" (Cave of the Wild Man), near the Oropa Sanctuary and in the "Cave of the marble mine of the Massucco". The opilions belonging to this genus have the legs of the second pair transformed in most sensitive palps by means of them they explore the walls of the subterranean cavities searching preys. (Real size of the body: 5-6 mm; legspan: about 4-5 cm).
