Arthropoda, Insecta, Coleoptera, Carabidae, Trechinae

Insecta, Coleoptera, Carabidae, Trechinae, Duvalius gentilei gentilei Gestro, 1885 - It is one of the "historical" Trechinae of the Piemonte, described at the end of the XIX century for the Bear Cave, or Poggio Cave, near the Ponte di Nava village, a cave easy to reach and easily practicable. The photos have been performed in the inner part of the cave on a sand siphon. It is a troglobite predator insect, like a lot of Trechinae and is probably an active hunter of collembola and other little Arthropods. The species is widespread from Viozene to Garessio, along the Tanaro Valley. In 1995 the author captured some specimens of this insect also in the Wild Woman Cave at 1225 m of altitude, including one found at about 170 m of depth below the entrance (new station). (Real size of the body: 4÷5 mm).
