Arthropoda, Arachnida, Opiliones

Arachnida, Opiliones, Ischyropsalidae, Ischyropsalis cfr. alpinula - It is an eutroglophile opilion already determined in past as "I. alpinula" or "I. pyrenaea alpicola" for the Rio Martino Cave and other cavities of the zone (Valenza's Hole) and actually in study after the recent discoveries of other species of the Piemonte made by the author. It is a voracious predator that hunt and devour any kind of organism that it can kill. The author observed this Arachnid to prey upon Diplopoda (Crossosoma semipes): with its pincers like that ones of the scorpions, there is no way out for its victim. This species shows a certain dimorphism between males (photo above) and females (photo below), lighter than the males, with yellowish white color. (Real size of the body: 4-5 mm; legspan: about 4-5 cm).
