was Elizabeth - it is said that he was a member of the Royal AcademyFAMILY SOURCE, but his name
isn’t found in the Directory of Members (checked
2009) – it is also said that Elizabeth “kept the family” - Joseph left £320 in his will, Elizabeth £537/14s/10d |

mentions are
found online of a British Victorian British Joseph Bunker, “active
1871-90”, although one says “died 1890” The Dictionary of British and Irish botanists and horticulturists says "BUNKER, JOSEPH (fl 1880s-1890s) Of Bath, Somerset - exhibited flower paintings at the Royal Academy and
New Water-colour Society" An art historian reports that the records of
the Royal Institute of Painters in
Watercolours show that he exhibited
still life subjects between 1883 and 1903 as follows: 1883 No. 374 “Plums” (address – 5 The Paragon,
Bath) 1884 No. 429 “Purple Grapes and Wallflowers” (Paragon
Art Studios, 15 Bladud Buildings, Bath) 1886 No. 1031 “Fruit” 1903 No. 10 “Plums” (£10-10s) (c/o Herald
Office, Langport) (the addresses quoted are possibly where he had his studio, or his
“business address” – Langport is near Twerton, Joseph’s home) However, until
a fuller biography of this Joseph Bunker can be found, there is still no
certainty that this was Joseph (these notes have been prepared with the help of Joseph’s Great-grandsons in Australia and China) |
