The
name Bunker is strongest in Bedfordshire, and is also found in Devon, but
Bunker family genealogist Henry L. Bunker III believed that
early Bunker families in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and
Hertfordshire should be considered together in a general way. It appeared to
him there had been considerable movement among these counties during the 16th
and 17th centuries. Travel distances involved among the many towns in this
area were on the order of five to ten miles. Two
Bunkers are recorded in the early 1500’s, and the family has since spread to,
among other places, the USA, where there is a large Bunker Family
Association. The above information is summarized from Henry L.
Bunker III’s 1984 Bunker Family History, p. 45. |

● the
marriage record shows that on 30 SEP 1792 only the banns were read out for
the 3rd time, whereas the details of the actual marriage, within
the same record, are blank – unless of course the marriage took place on the
same day as the 3rd banns were read out ● in the
1841 census, Joseph’s age is given as “60” (ages were rounded down in 1841)
[provided this is the correct man] ● as,
according to his baptism record, 13 AUG 1769, Joseph would have been 71-2 in
1841, there is obviously some confusion as to his age between his death and
burial records, it is not excluded that the shown in the census is also
incorrect |

● in
Charlotte’s death certificate, the place of death appears to be “Belsize Toll
Gate”, Hampstead, Middx ●
unfortunately no mention of “Belsize Toll Gate” can be found in internet –
“Toll Gate House, Spaniards Road” is on the north side of Hampstead Heath, a
few kilometres to the north ● however, it
would presumably have been a toll gate on a road out of London ● the
informant was a Sarah Morgan, address “Mr. Crowson’s Farm, Belsize Lane, Hampstead” (no mention can
be found in internet of this place either, although Belsize Lane is still
there), possibly a neighbour, so “Belsize Toll Gate” might have been in or
near Belsize Lane ● Belsize Lane
runs westwards from Haverstock Hill, today’s A502 road, almost as far as the
Finchley Road, A41, which are both major roads out of London, so perhaps
“Belsize Toll Gate” was at the intersection of Belsize Lane and one of those
roads ● if she and
William actually lived there, perhaps there was some connection with
William’s profession of coachman ●
unfortunately William cannot be found in the 1841-51 censuses, so it is
impossible to find where he was living in that period, although 2 out of 3 of
his sons for whom marriages have been found were married, and presumably
living, in the London area |

● Eleanor’s year of birth, as
calculated from the various census returns, is about 1807, 1811 or 1813 ● however, as she was married in
1829, being born in 1813 would make her only 16, so one of the 2 earlier
years is more likely ● in the various censuses she gives
“London, Middx” as her place of birth, but as she was married in Westminster,
Middx, perhaps she was not necessarily born in the City of London ● © an
Eleanor, “daughter of Elizabeth Reed and William Cobbell”
was born 29 APR 1802 and baptized
30 MAY 1802, St George,

● in
Charlotte’s death certificate, the place of death appears to be “Belsize Toll

NOTES: ► Roman numerals after a person’s
name, eg. John I, are purely to
distinguish different people with the same name ► The code before each name, for
example 2B3, is based on the following principles: the 1st figure, in
this case 2, refers to the generation, ie.
Generation 2 the 2nd letter, in
this case B, refers to the family, ie. the Bunker
and associated families the 3rd figure, in
this case 3, refers to number of identified children, including possible
children, for that particular generation R/D = Registration District R/O = Register Office (for an
explanation of these two terms, see homepage) © =
