I can't say how happy I am to have got this running without Radio Userland - ha! Probably for geeks this kind of thing is a doddle (in fact: it was a doddle - just turning the FTP upstreaming on, and using my ISP free web space) but I had to think hard before I realised it was the solution.
If you had ever looked at my Radio Userland hosted site, then you might have seen it got frozen at June 16th, 2004. My subscription ran out on that date, but before I parted with another $39.95 or whatever, I wanted to know if they were alive. It's spooky; the servers seem to be running, but no-one answers the email. I decided I wasn't going to risk any more money there, let alone my Visa details.
But the basic blog software is nice - just pumps everything up onto your site. The news aggregator is OK (but I have a better one now, NetNewsWire on OS X), by contrast the local form based blog is very convenient - compare it to the Google blog, which is crap, or Movable type, which needs MySQL on the server side or something. Yuk. Radio I can just about handle.
So now I'm back in action, and this is the site that will be running, http://digilander.libero.it/simonkay/ so bookmark that - or better still, sign up on the orange XML link to the left.
