La classe di seconda generazione rappresenta la massima evoluzione delle portaerei a decollo orizzontale.
La grandissima autonomia, il potente armamento e l'enorme capacità offensiva dei suoi caccia e dei suoi bombardieri ne fanno una macchina da distruzione poderosa.
L'unica critica che si può fare sta nel rischio di concentrare una così grande e costosa capacità bellica su un'unica nave.
Le camapagne belliche in cui le navi della classe Nimitz hanno partecipato (dalla Guerra del Golfo ai recenti bombardamenti sull'Afganistan) dimostrano che sono difficilmente attaccabili (fin'ora nessuno, neanche i kamikaze, ha mai tentato di affondarle!).
Rappresentano il più grande deterrente psicologico e fisico (missili nucleari esclusi) ai nemici degli U.S.A.

The class Nimitz II represents the maximum evolution of the aircraft carriers to horizontal take-off.
The great autonomy, the powerful armament and the enormous offensive ability of its fighters and its bombardiers do a mighty destruction car of it.
The only criticism that can be done is in the risk to assemble a so great and expensive war ability on an only ship.
The war camapagnes in which the ships of the class Nimitz has participated (from the War of the Gulf to the recent bombardments on the Afganistan) they show that they are hardly attachable (fin'ora anybody, the kamikaze, has tried even never to sink her!).
They represent the greatest psychological and physical deterrent (missile nuclear excluded) to the enemies of the U.S.As.
