La scarsa capacità di ricovero per gli aerei fu fra i principali motivi per cui le "Illustrious non vennero mantenute in servizio nel dopoguerra; subito, comunque, ci si era resi conto della loro scarsa capacità aerea e vennero attuati svariati espedienti per riuscire ad imbarcare il maggior numero possibile di veicoli. Ad esempio furono impiegate travi sporgenti fuoribordo a cui assicurare la coda degli aerei: in questa foto della Indomitable si notano due "Sea Hurricane" parcheggiati in questo modo. The scarce ability of refuge for the airplanes was among the principals motives for which the "Illustrious was not maintained on call in the postwar period; immediately, however, there their scarce aerial ability was realized and varied expedient were effected for succeeding in embarking the most greater possible number of vehicles.
