Entrata in servizio nel 1954, la Albion fu impiegata nell'operazione anglo-francese contro l'Egitto nell'autunno del 1956 per la ripresa del controllo sul Canale di Suez.
L 'unità si trasferì in Mediterraneo nel settembre 1956 con una dotazione di 27 caccia dei tipi Sea Venom e Sea Hawk a reazione, più due Skyraider e due elicotteri.
I due elicotteri furono i più impiegati per rifornire le truppe paracadutate sul terreno del Delta; gli aerei furono invece attivi solo il 10 novembre per attaccare alcune postazioni nemiche. Questa « piccola guerra" confermò l'efficienza delle portaerei con ponte angolato.
La Albion dal febbraio 1961 all'agosto 1962 ha subito lavori per essere trasformata in nave per trasporto truppe di assalto anfibio (Commando Carrier).
