SERJILLA
There are over 300 "dead city " in Syria, villages of late Roman or Byzantine epoch abandoned following the Moslem conquest or of earthquakes, sometimes absorbed in the intense green of the olive-trees, sometimes isolate on bare inhospitable plateaus. Serjilla lies in the middle of a stone desert, where a lot of the constructions are in good state of maintenance. There are isolated houses, churches and graves to sarcophagus often connected to underground rooms.
