The ruins of Anjar represent an exceptional testimony of Umayyad urbanistic. The city, founded to the beginning of the VIII century, shows a very regular layout, typical of the ancient civilizations. Through the rests of buildings, thermal baths, porticos is perceived the influence practiced by the architectural Roman and Byzantine tradition.
From 1984 it has been inserted in the list of the world Patrimonies of the humanity.
