From the Statutes of Ivrea, we know the principal agricultural products used by
the Eporedians in the fourteenth century. Besides pets and animals used in field work, we
get to know of ortaglie, walnuts, chestnuts, chick-peas, broad beans,
beans and other pulses, wheat, rye, oats, barley and maize that was already cultivated at
the beginning of the fourteenth century. Thanks to a decision of the "Consiglio della Credenza" two new products were introduced: the olive tree and the almond tree and whoever had some vineyards had to cultivate at least a tree. If the plants had given fruits the commune would have rewarded the owners with two coins. To defend the vineyards the pasture of the animals was forbidden, while the "campari" were entrusted with the defense of the agricultural fields in general. |

In the first eight days of September the "Podestà" with some wise men
and attorneys of the commune, assembled the consuls of all the nearby places, to decide in
what days the harvest had to be done. Grapes could be sold only after the harvest and its trade was forbidden before the octave of S. Michele (29 September). Hazelnuts could not be sold before the middle of July. Hemp and flax could be soaked only by the Eporedians in the Lake of the City. |
