No doctors could work in Ivrea unless he had been accepted by the Town Council
and judged as skilled in medicine and surgery. He had to swear before the Podestà to work properly and
inform him in case of infection an make suitable prescriptions for all people. In the case of epidemics the doctor was legally allowed to go away an had no duty to cure infected people, unless he wanted to do it "by his good will". The doctor, according to the statutes of 1433, had to write his prescriptions in a chemist's book, specified by the invalid or his relatives, who could also ask for a copy of the prescription. |
