PICTURE GALLERY - JAPAN

In the following pages I gathered some of the pictures I took during my trip to Japan in 1998. Japan is a charming country, and the high level of social safety gives to a lonely traveller the possibility to visit the country without particular precautions. I am thinking about adding here some travelling tips for travellers in Japan.

Curiosity: the Daibutsu-den (1st picture) is the world's biggest wooden structure: it's 45 m (148') high and the Buddha statue inside, 15 m (50') high, is the biggest bronze casting of the world. It was realized in the VIII century A.D. to overcome a big plague in the region of Nara, the ancient capital of Japan. The statue was cast twice because of technical problems; at last the plague was defeated but local governement finances were emtpy !
