Curiosity:
the Daibutsu-den (1st picture) is the world's biggest wooden
structure: it's 45 m (148') high and the Buddha statue inside, 15
m (50') high, is the biggest bronze casting of the world. It was
realized in the VIII century A.D. to overcome a big plague in the
region of Nara, the ancient capital of Japan. The statue
was cast twice because of technical problems; at last the plague
was defeated but local governement finances were emtpy ! |
