Murder My SweetMurder My Sweet
Philip Marlowe's first appearence on the Silver Screen. Based on Chandler's Farewell My Lovely. Dick Powell decided to change his image and play the hard-boiled slueth, it worked marvelously. Powell is fine as the white knight in tarnished amour. He is drawn into a complex web of murder blackmail and double-dealing. This is an early example of "Film Noir" and set the standard for the genre. The case involves a stolen jade necklace, a hulking dull-witted gangster, and an equally dangerous blond. Fast paced and exciting it still packs a wallop!

(1944) DIRECTED BY EDWARD DMYTRYK
STARRING DICK POWELL, CLAIRE TREVOR, ANNE SHIRLEY, OTTO KRUGER, MIKE MAZURKI, MILES MANDER

The Big SleepTHE BIG SLEEP
Chandler fans can't complain about this moody, atmospheric rendition of Marlowe's most bizarre case. Bogie's gritty inturpretation of the tough talking shamus is a high point in his glorious carrer, and sultry Bacall throws in enough sparks to ignite a city block. The convoluted case envolves dope addicts, sadistic killers, pornographers, and nymphomaniacs. Wow!!!

Lady in the LakeLADY IN THE LAKE
What's it like to look through the eyes of gumshoe Philip Marlowe? As the original ads stated: "YOU ACCEPT AN INVITATION TO A BLONDES APARTMENT. YOU GET SOCKED IN THE JAW BY A MURDER SUSPECT."This adaption of Chandler's whodunit has novelty of camera taking first -person point of view of Marlowe. The case involves a missing wife, L.A. lowlifes, troublesome cops and murder. The movie teems with startling suprises and gritty dialogue. See the clues as Marlowe sees them. Very interesting!!!

STARRING ROBERT MONGOMERY, AUDREY TROTTER, LLOYD NOLAN, TOM TULLY, LEON AMES, JAYNE MEADOWS.

The Brasher DoubloonIL DOBLONE SCOMPARSO

(titolo originale: THE BRASHER DOUBLOON)

STARRING GEORGE MONTGOMERY, NANCY GUILD, CONRAD JANIS, ROY ROBERTS, FRITZ KORTNER.

MarloweMARLOWE
Updating of Chandler's The Little Sister to the late 60's. Marlowe is hired by a girl to find her missing brother. Several interseted parties, including Bruce Lee in an early screen performance want Marlowe to lay-off the case. Along the way Marlowe comes across beautiful women, hoods, blackmailers, and ice pick murders in this slick film with a hilarious scene involving Lee trashing Marlowe's office. The cast of characters are so hard-boiled that somebody's got to crack. And when it happens, it's Marlowe's job to put the peices together.

The Long GoodbyeIL LUNGO ADDIO

(titolo originale: THE LONG GOODBYE)

FAREWELL MY LOVELYFarewell My Lovely
Here is Los Angeles in all its 1940's film-noir glory. This superb film adaption of Chandler's mystery is a tribute to the talents of Robert Mitchum. He is perfect as the tired world-weary shamus. His quest for Velma, the long lost love of Moose Malloy takes him from the swankest of night clubs to the darkest of back allies. This film evokes the dark netherworld of pre-WWII Los Angeles.

MARLOWE - OMICIDIO A PODDLE SPRINGS
