1 - From Borghetto to Passo Bardellone

Updating: giugno 2000
Trail description.
From the square planted with trees of Borghetto Vara, from where the buses depart, we enter on the Aurelia, direction La Spezia.
Later around two hundred meters, get over a church, we take to the right street Ripalta and we immediately turn to the right still at the street Redarena.
We continue at first on asphalt road, then on dirt. The narrow road coasts along the Redarena brook and it sometimes crosses it. We neglect a dirt road to the right in slope (km 3.5) and we continue on the road that begins to climb with windings.
We reach some houses where we meet the asphalt (km 5). We rise to the right for overcoming a pass and to go down to the provincial road. We go down to the left up to Casale and then to Pignone (km 10).
At the intersection we turn to the right for Levanto and we continue in slope as far as cross to the right a narrow asphalt road (km 14,2; indications for mountain Albereto). In slope we get over some groups of houses to reach a point in which the road go down (km 17,5). We continue in descent to which follows a short ascent and we go down to an intersection (km 18,6).
Here we follow the ample dirt road to the right, with sight on Levanto. The road slightly goes down to a chapel, then in plain to a fork where we start over climbing (km 19,5)
We arrive so to the passo Bardellone (km 21,7), meadow zone from where they pass many runs.
Gradient: 700 ms.

2 - From Passo of the Bardellone to Borghetto, via Cassana

Updating: giugno 2000
Trail description.
From the passo of the Bardellone we proceed toward west. After some hundred meters we arrive to a clear fork where we go to the right. The good dirt road rise for a first tract of around 2 kms, begins then to go down.
The descent it continues nonstop and amusing to reach the asphalt and the square of Cassana (km 9). We go down to the right here reaching the provincial one that we take to the right in slope.
We continue in slope up to the point in which it begins the descent; to the right the houses of Faggiona (km 12,2). Here it is necessary to be attention to take the narrow road that goes down to the left.
After few hundred meters we arrive to a farmhouse where we follow to the left the road (poster of private street). Arrived to a narrow square we go down on the road of right, we cross a short slope at the end of which we go down to the right definitely on the road.

3 - Climb mount Verruga from S.Pietro Vara , via Tavarone

Updating: June 2000
Trail description.
From the center of S.Pietro we take the narrow road with indication Saltarana. The narrow road climbs asphalted, it reaches Saltarana and get overs it and continues reaching place m. Pelato where it begins a dirt one.
We continue in descent and then we rise reaching Tavarone where we find again an asphalt road. Passed the houses we reach the main road where we go down to the right.
The steep descent conducts to a bridge (loc. Molin Cornaio; km 9,8) where we turn to the left, in slope, for Colli. Reached the country we continue to the left the slope. The asphalt road and the slope contemporarily finish.
It begins a level tract with tracts in slope and others in descent that is forwarded in the valley. In proximity of the Pass the road decidedly begins to climb and leads to the Passo of the Bocco (km 16.3).
Crossroad of runs.
From the Passo we go right, in slope, following the dirt road that the Pass Arena reaches and in path is transformed. We continue with some difficulties on the path that it is maintained to half coast up to go down to an ample meadow pass (passo Broccheie; km 18,6).
We laboriously go up again from the opposite part directing us toward some spar (trail sign 5T).
We reach the ledge from where the mining cableway departed, 300 meters before the spar (km 19.3). We follow to the left the mining road that originates from the Passo of the Biscia ( itinerary 6 of the Bocco, contrarily).
Reached a small construction (km 21), situated near a crossroads, we leave this road to go to the right, on good dirt road. The road slightly goes down, then it is maintained level and it brusquely finishes in the wood (km 23.3).
We continue climbing to the right laboriously in the wood for some about ten meters meeting a path (that it originates from the road that we have crossed). We follow to the left it and it is enough cycle. We reach so a pass where we turn to the right decidedly reaching the ridge among the Verruga mountain and the Porcile mountain (km 24).
The peak of the Verruga is not reached with the bike: who wanted he can climb in a quarter of an hour going to the left.
Gradient:   up to the ridge 950 ms.
Observations:   Obviously all the places crossed can be stung of departure, besides to the Bocco paths arrive from the val Graveglia, from Bargone, from Campegli.
Varying:  (Unadvisable). From the ridge it is possible to go down to east. We directly go down for traces up to when we see to the left some construction that capts the springs. We reach them and we take the dirt road that it goes down. get over a slope we go down to a drinking trough where go to the right go down as far as a gate. We step over the gate and we continue on uneven mule-track that meets on a wide dirt road. We go to the left and we meet the asphalt and we go down to the road that S.Pietro Vara connects with Maissana.
In the zone strong vipers are met.

4 - Turn of mount Malpertuso

Aggiornamento: 12/2001
Descrizione.
We depart from the Sanctuary of Madonna of Soviore and we rise following the provincial road.
We get over the intersection with a road, from which you could reach the itinerary 1, and we continue up to reach a great intersection (km 1,4; Passo of the Termine).
The road continues to Pignone, while to the right climbs the road to Vernazza. Between the roads a dirt one climb on which it also race the trail sign white/red of the path n° 1 CAI.
The slope begins easy then a short steep tract and continues without difficulty reaching a small pass (km 2,1). We continue to the left, in descent. The path continues with the only difficulty of some dejected tree and quickly hands to a pass where we find the asphalt road (km 3,1; Foce of Drignana).
We cross the road and we climb following an asphalted narrow road. After 300 meters we leave the trail sign and we continue on the steep narrow road that clims to the left. We arrive at the end of the asphalt (km 3,9) where it also finishes this slope; we go to the right here to light descent.
We find again the path n. 1 and we follow it in slope till a square where the path goes to the right, instead we continue on the road that it begins to coast along the northern slope of the mountain.
Overcoming some steep tract we arrive to a fork where we turn to the right, we cross 10 meters, and we find a second intersection (km 5,6).
These two consecutive intersections are basic. To the second intersection the road that climbs we take. We proceed with difficulty to cause of the inclination and of the often layer of leaves, then the inclination decreases and we go out on the ridge.
We continue straight on to the first intersection, while we are turning to the left to that follows after few meters. The road continues in light descent and it arrives near a pass with benches (km 6,8). To the left the signalled paths 05 and 06 go down. We leave the road and we turn to the right reaching the benches where we find again the path n. 1.
We follow the path toward left with non difficult course in the wood. The path goes down steeply to a saddle then it continues to half coast till to go out of the wood and it goes down definite till to arrive to cross a good road where we cross the path n 7 (km 10).
Going to the left we could reach the near passo Cigoletta and to cross the crossing of ridge of the Five Earths (path n 1).
We turn to the right instead. Following the comfortable forest road we go down to some houses (km 10,7) where we find the asphalt road.
We continue in descent and we arrive on the road of the Sanctuaries.
Gradient:  in slope 380 ms.
On saddle: 97%
Observations: the road that crosses the northern slope of the Malpertuso had numerous misleading ramifications. Follow to the description; the misleading deviations are all discensives.

5 - Volastra loop

Updating: 1/2002
Description.
We depart from the square of Volastra and we take the road that climb forehead, leaving the provincial one that rises on the left and goes down to the right.
The road is asphalted for around a kilometer then it becomes dirt. We proceed in light slope and then in plain with beautiful run among the pines and the oaks and we arrive at the end of the road (km 8,3).
Here we find a small asohalt road that steep climbs to the left quickly gaining height with some windings.
When the slope finishes the road it becomes dirt (km 9,5); we neglect the road that goes to the left and we continues in plain arriving to the place Telegraph (km 10,4) where we meet a road and numerous paths.
We turn to the left to climb on the asphalt road. At the end of the slope we find a crossroads (Bramapane; km 12,4) where we turn to the left.
We leave the asphalt roads and we cross a hold fork entering on the path CAI n°1 (until here it is possible to arrive rising directly from the Telegraph on the path 1).
We go to the right with beautiful panoramic run. The narrow road becomes more hold. Horrendous white arrows deface the ground. Without problems we go down to an intersection (place The Cross; km 14,2). The road it continues to the right in descent, but we go to the left slightly, in slope, following the path n° 1.
With some step by foot we climb to an intersection where we continue on the path n°1. The path never proceeds on the ridge, but it stays a little bottom, now on a slope now on the other. In this way we arrive near a menhir and crossing some little pass.
We arrive to a last pass (km 16,9) crossed which the path goes down rather steep up to the East Pass of the mount Marvede. We cross the path n°6 ( varying ).
We continue straight on and we go out on a beautiful lawn among the pines; we continue in slope and we reach the Pass of Cigoletta where we find the path n°7 (km 18,5).
With a short tract in slope we arrive to an intersection; to the right rises the path n°1, to the left the n°7 goes down. We go to the left, in common with the itinerary 4 . On good road we go down up to the houses of Fornacchi (km 19,4) and in short in the road.
We turn to the left. The road first rises and then goes down to Volastra (km 24,3).
Gradient:   in slope 500 ms.
On saddle:  99,5%
Observations: beautiful run with panoramic places. It is practicable also in contrary sense with the same difficulties. In this case, arrived in the place Bramapane, we could go straight on using the path to go down to the Telegraph.
Varying 5.1 : Unadvisable, but useful to interrupt quickly the turn.
From the Oriental Pass of the Marvede we go down to the left following the path n°6.
It is a steep run, made difficult to the presence of one narrow channel of erosion, difficult to avoid.
In a point we meet a short exposed tract that it asks for attention to the control of the bike. Reached an intersection we continue rights, on tract less steep, and in short we go out on the road 200 meters away from the square of Volastra (km 1,5).

6 - From Pass of Rastello to the river Vara

Updating: 9/2002
Description.
From the Pass we go to the right (for who who climbs from the Liguria) crossing the wide gravel road.
We go to light slope, then we go down to an ample saddle where we meet a fork (km 1,1).
The two roads rejoined after: that of right presents smaller gradient but it is less panning.
In the point of rejoin (km 3,8 following the higher road) a road that rises from Tuscany it also arrives.
We continue in slope then we go down to a crossroads (Pass 4 Roads; km 4,8).
We neglect to the right the road, that rises from Debbio ( link 6.2 ), and we continue straight on few meters meeting a fork with a rock with indications.
We take the road of left, also crossed by the AV. The road of right it goes down to Houses Castellaro ( link 6.3 ).
We continue in slope for around 1 km then in descent reaching Foce del Termine (km 7,1).
The beautiful road continues alternating slopes and non binding descents and finally goes down in more definite way, it becomes asphalted, it passes near a house and it meets in a greater road (km 10,3). We are in the place Casoni.
We turn to the right, then immediately to the left. We cross the square of the restaurant following the trail signs AV and the road that it goes down.
We arrive (km 10,6) to cross an ample road that goes to the left to slope. We follow it. The road becomes level and leads to the feet of the Mount Cornoviglio (place La Conchetta, km 13,1).
We continue in descent and we arrive to an evident fork with signalings (km 15,6) where we turn to the right continuing the descent.
The road becomes asphalted and it arrives to cross another that we follow to right for 100 meters. Here we find a dirt road that goes to the left. Following it we reach Sella Alpicella (km 19,1).
To the right the road goes down to Calice; we go straight on the road in slope. We cross the pine wood with some short slopes and we arrive to a fork (km 19,7) where we leaves the AV that goes down to the left. We turn to the right, in slope.
Well soon the road begins to go down and finishes to the houses of Bruscarolo (km 22,4).
By now all on asphalt road we turn to the right. The road goes down rather steep, then again rises. The final descent leads us to Tranci where we cross a greater road. Following it we go down to the provincial one on the bottom of the valley (km 29,8).
Gradient: in descent 1500 ms, in slope 500 ms.
On saddle:  100%
Observations: beautiful panoramic run.
Following I describe some of the runs that conduct to the ridge.
Link 6.1: Foce of the Rastello from Torpiana.
From the point in which we cross the narrow road of access to the below country we run 400 meters. We meet to the right a narrow asphalt road with big wall in concrete. We turn and ascent.
We get over some rather steep tracts, partly on asphalt and partly on gravel and we arrive to a fork (km 1,2).
We take the road of left that steep rises and is asphalted. When the inclination decreases the ground it does it gravel. We reach a small pass which follows a light descent and finally the short climb that it finishes on the provincial road (km 3,3).
We turn to the right and climb in short the pass (km 4,7).
Link 6.2: Foce Four Roads from Pieve of Zignago, via Debbio.
From Pieve we continue on the provincial road, now in descent. We get over the houses of Debbio and we continue for some hundred meters. We meet to the right the only narrow road that rises (km 2) and we turn.
The roads rises and leads under to the northern slope of the Dragnone. We continue the slope going on the right to the only intersection. We reach the pastures and the Foce(km 8,4). The run is asphalted except that for around 1800 meters.
Link 6.3: Foce Four Roads from Pieve of Zignago .
From Pieve we leave the provincial road following the road in light descent that passes in front of the town hall and it continues coasting along the southern slope of the Dragnone mountain.
With beautiful run among the pines, unfortunately asphalted, we continue in light slope.
We go down finally passing under the crumbling slopes of the mountain and rising to an intersection (km 3,2). We turn to the left clearly and we face the steep narrow asphalt road that leads to the houses Castellaro (dogs; km 5,8) and it arrives near the rocky slopes of the Dragnone. Still steep slope to a ledge and to the near pass (km 7,4).
In descent we reach the intersections at the Pass of the 4 Roads (km 7,9).

7 - From the Telegraph to the Saddle of Derbi

At the Telegraph they finish the Five Earths and it begins Tramonti. It is the prosecution, toward Portovenere, of the path of ridge CAI n° 1.
Updating: 11/2002
Description.
In locality Telegraph we go toward east choosing the path in the pine wood (trail sign CAI 1) and not the near narrow road.
After few meters we slightly rise, then we go to descent reaching the road that we follow to the right quickly reaching S.Antonio (km 1,1).
Here we cross the path n° 4 that it connects Biassa with Schiara, we neglect it and go up always following our n° 1.
For a little we rise, then we cross in plain the cork-forest and we begin to go down. The descent initially not presents difficulty, then it becomes steep with rocky passages that it sometimes force us to proceed by foot.
An easy tract leads us near a wall of enclosure with gate (km 3).
The path continues near the wall, but it is not cycle. It is worthwhile to turn to the left and to follow the narrow road. In every case we reach the near country of Campiglia and we go to the church (km 3,4).
We continue on the path that passes beside the church and rises to the ruins of the old windmill. The path crosses the pine wood, then turn clearly to the left and it goes down reaching a small sporting field where we enter on the asphalt road (km 3,8).
We go down on the asphalt road, we can avoid to take the path that rises on the right after 200 meters, and we go down up to the winding.
To the right it continues the path n° 1, but the spectacular path is dangerous with the bike, therefore we don't take it. Few meters later we meet a military road that goes to the right (km 4,5). We take it up.
Also in this street there is a trail sign white/red that we will follow. We go up to the winding where we leave the asphalt to go to the left.
The narrow road transforms it in mule-track, almost not cycle, that steep climbs in the wood and leads to a forest shelter (km 5,5).
To the left of the construction we go down on the evident path that widens to narrow road and it reaches a zone of quarries. Continuing the descent we arrive on a comfortable dirt road (km 6; great panorama).
We turn to the right. The road continues in descent, with some short ascents , and it meets in an ampler dirt one.
We turn to the left in descent with ample windings. The road becomes asphalted and it arrives to a fork (km 10,1). We turn to the right and we reach the near Saddle of Derbi (km 10,3).
Gradient: in descent 450 ms, in slope 120 ms.
On saddle: 96%
Observations: beautiful run. It belongs to the crossing of ridge of the Five Earths. In contrary sense presents greater difficulties.
Link 7.1: The Telegraph can be reached by La Spezia following the road that crosses Biassa. From the sporting field of Pegazzano they are around 7,5 km. In descent it is worthwhile to follow the mule-track that starts from S.Antonio (trail sign 4), it goes down to Biassa and then it goes down cutting all the windingses. Has a lot of stairs, but generally low and not difficult.
Link 7.2: From Saddle of Derbi we can go down to Le Grazie with the asphalt road in around 3 kms.
