Bocco di Bargone

1 - Ascent from Bargone

Updating: 2/2002
Run.
From Casarza Ligure we go up on the government road for few more than a kilometer. We meet to the left a steep slope with indication for Bargone (295 slms). We climb reaching the country after 5 kms.
From the square we go up to the left decidedly. After hundred meters the road that continues right we take (road indications and prohibition of transit), while the main road go up to the left.
Ascent it continues asphalted to a splendid outcrop of pillows basalt. Here it begins the dirt road.
We follow the road that climbs without steep slope to the top (km 12,7). On the right we leave the road to Zenone mine (itinerary 2). The road continues in light descent and arrives to the Pass.
Gradient: 880 ms.

2 - Come down to Campegli

Updating: 2/2000
Run
From the pass we go down toward Bargone; after few hundreds meters we go up to the left on an evident road. We continue to a curve from which we see, of forehead, the ruins of the mine of the Zenone (1,5 kms).
We leave the road going down to the right for a steep path; we cross a brook and we continue alternating stretches in descent to abrupt slopes.
We arrive to a pine-wood where we go down to the right to meet a wide dirt road (km 3).
We continue to the right to a fork (km 4). Two the equivalent possibilities:
  1. On the left we quickly go down to the houses Pu (dogs);
  2. on the right, after a short ascent, we go down coasting along the slope of west of the mount Pu; we arrive little bottom the houses Pu.
We continue the descent up to Campegli (km 9,5). To the intersection we go to the right to returning to the government road.
Gradient:  850 m.
On saddle:  99%
Observations:   in slope it is convenient to follow the run 2, less steep.

3 - Come down to Missano

Updating: 2/2000
Run
From the pass we slightly go down toward Bargone; after few hundred meters we go up to the left on an evident road. We continue to a curve from which we see, of forehead, the ruins of the mine of the Zenone.
We leave the road going down to the right for a steep path; we cross a brook and we continue alternating tracts in descent to abrupt slopes.
Arrived to a pine-wood we go down to the right to meet a wide dirt road (km 3).
We go up to the left on the road with ruined ground for around 300 m, then we begin to go down.
A first tract is strongly exavated and ruined, then the bed improves and we almost continues in plain.
Arrived to around km 4 we leave the road that continues in plain to go down to the right a steep tract in the lawns. You pay attention to the trail signs that you meet at the intersection (FIE red rhomb and white-red flag 5T).
Some hundred meters of steep descent they bring to a enclosure from which go out through the gate (to close again).
Here a road starts in descent that coasts along the enclosure and quickly hands to a farmhouse (horses).
We continue on best road before gravel then asphalted, that brings to Missano on the government road, to around 9 kms from Casarza.
Gradient:   950 ms. up to Casarza
On saddle:  98%

4 - Come down to Colli and descent to Maissana

Are the two descents that they depart from the pass toward north. The first one goes down in the wood, the second it crosses the slopes of the Porcile mountain.
They are roads also practicable to the cars and they don't introduce any problem. They can serve to close some rings on the Val di Vara.
Gradient: 500 ms.

5 - Run to the mountain Porcile

Run
From the Pass we continue on the dirt road that it reaches the Colle Arena and in path it is transformed. We continue with some difficulties on the singletract that is maintained to half coast up to go down to an ample meadow pass (passo Broccheie, km 2.3).
We laboriously go up again from the opposite part aiming some aerials (trail sign 5T).
We reach the ledge from where the mining cable way departed, 300 meters before the aerials. We follow to the left the mining road that brings to the Passo della Biscia.
Gradient:  150 m.
On saddle:  70%
Observations:  brief run of link that it allows the turn of the Val Graveglia.

6 -   Cross of the val Graveglia

Updating:   February 2000
Run.
From Lavagna we go up along the Entella up to reach the fork for the val Graveglia where it is necessary to go to the right. Start (km 0).
Go up the valley up to place Ponte Gaggia where go to the left to the fork (few visible) with indications for Houses Zatta and Campo di Ne.
We go up overcoming the country of Ne, that leave to the left; we arrive at two houses (km 7,2) (dogs) where we turn to the right clearly (straight on we would be returned to Ne) and the road becomes dirt. We reach the asphalt to a fork with the road that climbs from Conscenti (km 10) where we go up to the left.
The road becomes dirt and go up to near pass of the Cammilla that reaches with a light descent. Exceeded some houses we meet a first fork where we go up to the right and, after a little while, a second where we still go to the right.
The road continues dirt quite in level and it comes to cross a shoulders of the mount Cammilla (km 15,5).
Really where the descent begins we take the dirt road to the left (bar) that longly coasts along the southern slopes of the mount Zatta, first in slope then in descent.
We proceed up-and-down overcoming two fords, then the superior yards of the copper mine and we still go down to a third ford (km 20).
Here the road climbs with ample windings in the wood to a panoramic knoll, we go down again to arrive to a beautiful meadow plain with the farms said Casoni of Arzeno (km 23).
The road is bifurcated, it is necessary to go to the right (the branch of left go up to an old quarry and there it finishes) going down up to Case Soprane (from here it is possible to go down to the provincial road ending the itinerary).
At the winding before entering country we turn to the left going beyond a bar. We go down to the stream and then we go up by windings in the wood.
The road conducts to a zone of pastures and then to the ample and characteristic Prati of Oneto. We coast along to the right the lawns until to arrive on the provincial road (km 30).
We go up it toward left up to the Passo della Biscia.
On the right is detached in slope a forest road with bar. We take it and we follow it overcoming a cross-road near a cottage; we continue almost to the end of the road near a group of aerial (km 35).
It is well visible the ample meadow saddle of the pass Broccheie. Around 300 meters before the aerials a path goes down to the saddle (trail sign 5T); it is necessary to follow it and to go up again then the opposite slope on path to tracts badly off. It is this the only not completely cycle tract.
The path is transformed in a road and goes to the pass of the Bocco (km 38).
We go down from the pass with one of the described itineraries and we return to Lavagna.
Gradient: 1150 ms.
On saddle: 99%
Observations: for the one who wanted to directly go down in val Graveglia they exist three possibilities all unadvisable. I describe it summarily in the possible itineraries.
Note: from Casarza Ligure it is possible to reenter in val Graveglia following a asphalt road that it crosses two passes. From Casarza it is necessary to take the road that starts to the right from the government one: immediately before the double curve street Barletti is taken (it is the road after the square of the Town hall).
We go up to Tassani, go down to S.Vittoria where we go to the right for climbing M.te Domenico and the following pass. We finally go down in Val Graveglia.

7 - Descent from Passo del Bocco to Sestri, via Libiola

Updating:  3/2002
Description.
From Passo del Bocco we go down on the dirt road that goes toward mount Roccagrande beginning few meters before the pass, side Bargone.
The road goes down wide for around 1,5 kms then it begins to climb with some steep tracts.
We reach the tallest point, near the mount Roccagrande, then we begin the descent.
Always on wide dirt road we get over the ridge that separates mount Roccagrande and mount Tregin and we enter the valley of the stream Gromolo.
We go down with numerous windings arriving near a house (km 5,4). We continue straight on, almost in plain.
Later around 300 meters we arrive to a fork where we turn to the right, in descent. We have to watch out because this road finishes blind; we owe to leave it 500 meters after the fork and take a small path that goes down to the left in the wood.
The path introduces some non cycle tracts but it is short and it finishes after 300 meters on the dirt road of an aqueduct.
We follow the comfortable level road for a long tract, then we get over a short slope and we arrive to a pass near a construction in concrete (km 8,7).
We continue in descent. Runs 250 meters we find to the right a little square that it leans out on the excavations of the abandoned yards of the mine of Libiola; possible variation of descent.
The road continues without difficulty, it passes near a house and it reaches the asphalt road (km 9,8).
We go down to the right quickly reaching S.Vittoria and then Sestri Levante (km 16).
Gradient: 990 ms.
On saddle: 99%
Observations:
Varying 7.1: we leave the main run around 250 meters from the construction of the aqueduct turning to the right.
We enter a zone marked by the mining excavations and we continue keeping the right. The descent continues with difficulty while the path crosses a landslide that overhangs the crater of excavation.
Then the path widens to road among thin pines wood. We go down aiming to reach the outside of the crater to the height of its ground.
We continue on narrow path, not cycle, that goes down to windings staying to the border of the wood.
We arrive at the end of the descent where we find a good dirt road (km 0,6). We go to the left and we arrive to Villa Libiola (km 10,3).
We go down quickly on asphalt to Molino Balicco, then to S.Vittoria and Sestri.
General length as the main itinerary; less cycle but interesting for the visit in the mining yards.

8 - Ascent the mount Porcile from Pian di Fieno

Updating: 12/2002
Description.
We depart from the square in front of the feed oppers of the mines (Pian di Fieno is in Val Graveglia at around 13 kms from the motorway of Lavagna).
We rise, following the provincial road, for around 350 meters and we turn to the right. The road climbs and, after 13 windings and some curve, it reaches the doors of the little country of Nascio that we leave to the left (km 2,6). We continue now in descent then we go up to Cassagna (km 3,8).
We leave to the left the country and rise with some windings. The road becomes a metalled one and it continues in light slope.
A brief descent brings us to overcome two bridges where we find again the tarmac (km 6,8). Shortly after we meet the provincial road that we follow to the right.
We go over the square of the Springs S. Rita (km 8,1) and we continue in a narrow road that slightly goes down.
Not very late the tarmac ends and we continues on dirt road with enough binding slope that brings us to a small pass over which it passes the provincial road (km 11,6).
We rise to the right and we reach the Pass of the Snake. We turn to the right in the blocked road that climbs. The ample gravel road climbs without difficulty.
We reach the fork of Verruga mountain (km 14,2; itinerary) and we continue reaching a fork (km 15,9). To the right the path goes down to Pass of the Bocco; we go straight on continuing the slope.
We gain high with some windings and we arrives at the end of the road (km 16,9). The peak of the Porcile is attainable by foot climbing to the left, coasting along the mining cut (10 mins).
Gradient: 950 ms (excluded the peak).
Rideable: 100% (excluded the peak).

9 - Descent from mount Porcile to Pian di Fieno

Updating: 12/2002
Description.
From the term of the road under the peak we go down and we ignore the road that goes to the aerials. Shortly after a road that goes to the left to an ample square we take (km 1).
Crossed the square we find the signposted path that it goes down to the Pass Broccheie. Sketch.
We continue over the Pass crossing the oriental slope of mount Capra. The path presents some difficulties because of counter slope and some rough stretches.
At Colla Arena we change slope and we quickly reach a visible electric line (km 3).
Immediately before the pylon we turn to the right and we follow the road for about ten meters. We turn to the right entering the pasture. We continue staying under to the electric cables. Before the following pylon we find to the right the beginning of a rough road.
We follow it in descent with difficulty because of the inclination and of the unstable stones. The run going down becomes less difficulty and we arrive to a cottage (km 4,1) where the mule-track becomes road.
We go down up to the base of a pass that we reach in slope (km 4,8).
The road continues in descent and brings us to Statale (km 6,6). We turn to the right and immediately to the left, without entering country. Arrived on the provincial road we go down to the left and we reach an intersection place on a winding (km 7,3). We turn to the left.
The road is tarmacked then metalled after two bridges, it effects a light slope and it continues in easy descent up to the doors of Cassagna (km 10,7).
We turn to the right entering the square, we cross a portico and we overcome the short staircase that climbs to a very little square. We continue straight on the alley that it goes down.
It's the beginning of the marvelous paved mule-track that goes down with stairs of stone and it reaches the agile bridge (km 11,3) on the gorge.
Reached the tarmac we rise to the right, we overcome Nascio and we go down with numerous windings up to reach the provincial road (km 13,8).
Pian di Fieno is to the left to 350 meters.
Gradient: 950 ms (excluded the peak).
Rideable: 99% (excluded the peak).

Altri percorsi
