- Evaluation of soil suitability for agri-forestry quality products
Research on the relationship between soil and the quality of typical Italian agri-forestry products. Our research focuses on the environment suitable for the production of quality truffles and wines. For this purpose, both traditional pedological approaches - soil suitability evaluation per landscape and soil unit - and numerical analyses - statistical, geostatistical and fuzzy - are used.
Publications - Sampling, statistical and geostatistical techniques for land evaluation
Testing and employment of statistical and geostatistical techniques - univariate and multivariate - for a territorial analysis of geopedological data. Particular attention is given to the study of soil variability and to its impact on agri-forestry products and on the prediction of soil contamination phenomena in the field of the procedures for the risk analysis of soil contamination. During the last years, investigation has been extended to the application of sampling theories for the definition of optimum sampling schemes for soil study and suitability evaluation.
Publications - Role of organic matter in soil
Investigation on the role of organic matter in the processes of evolution and stabilization of soil, and on its capacity to accumulate organic matter to counterbalance the greenhouse effect. Particolar attention is given to chemical characterization of humic substances and to the transformation of organic material in the forest environment at ecosystem level.
