Crustacea, Isopoda, Asellidae,
Proasellus franciscoloi (Chappuis, 1955) - Stigobite crustacean frequent in the underground rivers and in the cave-pools in the caves of the southern Piemonte; this species, live in the groundwaters of the Bossea Cave and in the Bear Cave of Ponte di Nava and recently the author found it in the Crow River Cave. It live in the bottom of the cave-pools, particularly on organic debris. The female brings the eggs hanged in a bunch under the abdomen (see photo below). In this genus the antennas are generally of different length and the body is flattened as that one of some marine crustaceans. (Real dimensions of the body: 7÷10 mm).Other images:
