Jackson's parents lived in North Carolina but historians debate on which side of the state line the birth took place
In June 1796 Tennessee was separated from North Carolina and admitted to the Union as the sixteenth state
Jackson was soon afterward elected the new state's first congressman
Crawford of Georgia who were respectively speaker of the house, secretary of state, and secretary of the treasury
Jackson never forgave either one of them, especially after Adams named Clay his secretary of state in what seemed to be a payoff for Clay's votes
Jackson was as far from being a States' Righter as it was possible to be and issued a presidential proclamation against South Carolina
The immediate crisis passed, but the incident was a precursor of the positions that would lead almost thirty years later to the War Between the States
Another major issue during Jackson's presidency was his refusal to sanction the recharter of the Bank of the United States

By 1925, it was apparent that if veterans were to obtain those Federal benefits to which they were entitled due to Federal service, the State would have to provide some assistance in pressing claims
The 1925 General Assembly made it a duty of the Commission of Labor "to aid veterans of the World War in securing the adjustment of claims against the Federal Government." This early assistance signified the State's official concern for its war veterans of the Twentieth Century
He asked the Legislature for a separate agency of State Government, specializing in service to veterans
Without exception, all Governors and most sessions of General Assemblies have generously supported the work of the agency as it served the needs of the State's veterans, their dependents and survivors
