● there is a document in the National Archives entitled “Retirement from Metropolitan Police: Edward Wigley, Covering dates 1856-1857”

● his badge number was H141 – H was the code for Stepney, Middx - he appears several times as a witness in criminal cases at the Old Bailey (Central Criminal Court, London) 1839-54

● his police pension record, which has come online in APR 2017, states he entered the service 26 FEB 1838 and was discharged 21 NOV 1856, age 47, because of a back injury, sustained while taking a prisoner into custody, address 7 Essex Street, Mile End Old Town, Middx

● presumably he then moved back to Kent, as he was there in the 1861 census, although his police pension record states “where he intends to reside and draw his pension: London”
