"OUR DEAR
OLD CORNER (HOME)" DAVID WIGLEY I's
home, Oversland, Selling, Kent (the tall house, not
the bungalow), front garden ● unknown
who the people are, but they might just be David’s great-grandchildren – left,
1 boy and 2 girls, right, 3 boys and a bicycle or wheelchair, and even
further right, a bigger girl · the name was
apparently OAK CORNER, but the writing on the back definitely reads "OUR
DEAR OLD CORNER" ● the
handwriting is probably that of Ann(ie) Wigley Durham. David’s
daughter, on the back of a copy of the photo she sent to her brother in
America, Herbert William Wigley – she mentions
“Home”, as this is where they grew up |

OVERSLAND ● possibly
the same place as in D100, seen at the exit from the front garden of the
houses, the houses themselves being off to the right, and the house visible
here being the house in the background of D100 ● the word
OVERSLAND and a number in the lower right-hand corner, and the POSTCARD print
on the back, may mean that this was a commercial postcard, and had no
connection with the family, other than the location ● however,
in the 1901 census David is listed as living at Oversland,
whereas in the 1911 he is listed as a “visitor” at his daughter Elizabeth “Lizzie”’s home, so it is not clear whether he had already
left/sold the house at Oversland or not ● so,
depending on when the photo was taken, the family shown may still be David’s,
whether this was a commercial postcard or not ● if this
photo was really taken early 1900’s, these could possibly be David’s
eldest grandchildren, his daughter Ann(ie)’s
children, JOHN STANLEY DURHAM, HENRY CHARLES LYGO DURHAM, LESLIE DAVID
DURHAM, DORIS ANNIE DURHAM WALTER (born 1892-7), in which case the ladies
could possibly be, left to right, ANNE HOWE WIGLEY, ANNIE WIGLEY DURHAM?, unknown ● back:
the postmark is “Canterbury, 8 JUL 1924”, but 1924 is not necessarily the
year the photo was taken ● it is
addressed to Mr H Durham, 70 St Chads Road,
Tilbury, Essex, David’s daughter Ann(ie)’s son Henry
Charles Lygo Durham the text reads: Very … today I am at
Canterbury this is a Corner of G Dad’s Home the cat died
Sunday Evening [signed Annie?] ● as the writer
mentions [Henry Charles Lygo’s] “Grandfather”, he/she
could be his mother, but could equally be one of his siblings |

● DAVID
WIGLEY I had 5 children
born 1872-84 (plus a son who died young), daughter-daughter-son-daughter-son,
whereas D100B shows 2 older boys, a younger boy/girl?, and a young girl, so
they can’t be his children ● assuming
the people in the photo are his family, not just neighbours ● there
are 3 adult ladies in the picture, so perhaps one is his wife, and the other
2 daughters – his children ANN(IE) WIGLEY DURHAM
had 4 children, son-son-daughter-son, born 1892-7 SARAH ELEANOR
WIGLEY MACKLIN had 5 children, son-son-daughter-son-daughter, born 1900-11 HERBERT WILLIAM
WIGLEY emigrated in 1904 when his only daughter born up till then was 2 ELIZABETH WIGLEY
“LIZZIE” DAVIS had 3 surviving sons, born 1905-12 ALBERT JAMES
WIGLEY had 3 daughters, born 1913-29 ● so
perhaps they are his grandchildren |

assuming the
children are all standing near their parent, they could be child 1 LIVING DURHAM (JSD’s 1st daughter - born 1920) child 2 MARGARET NANCY
DURHAM TURNER DOOTSON CHISMAN (HCLD’s 1st
daughter - born 1917) child 3 ELSIE AMELIA
WIGLEY (AJW’s 1st daughter - born 1913) child 4 LIVING DURHAM (JSD’s 1st
son, a twin - born 1924) child 5 LIVING DURHAM (JSD’s 2nd daughter, a twin - although it
doesn’t look like her) or LORNA JOAN DURHAM GANDY (HCLD’s
daughter - both born 1924), in which case 1
of these 2 is missing |
