1961
Jan. 1: Henry Ford II resumes duties as Company President of the Ford Motor Co.
April 12: John Dykstra is elected Company President of the Ford Motor Co.
April 18: Ford Parts Division is formed (MOTORCRAFT).
Oct. 3: UAW calls the first Company-wide strike against the Ford Motor Company. (It will end on Oct. 20 with a three-year contract.)
Oct. 12: Ford Fairlane is introduced.
Dec. 11: Ford acquires Philco Corporation.
Buick introduces the first American V-6 (198 cubic inch) passenger car engine.
During this year the U. S. Department of Justice files a criminal indictment against GM on charges of monopolistic practices in the production and sale of diesel electric locomotives. A federal judge grants a motion to dismiss the grand jury indictment in 1964.
Chrysler introduces two brand new concept cars, the Turboflite and the Dodge Flitewing.
The Chrysler Imperial production reverts to the Jefferson Avenue plant with the 1962 models.
The Graham/DeSoto/Imperial plant is sold and the assembly of big Dodge Polara moved to Jefferson Avenue for 1961 model year.
This is the last year for DeSoto cars, now down to a 2-door and 4-door hardtop, and the export DeSoto Diplomat.
DeSoto is replaced by Chrysler at Plymouth-DeSoto dealers and new, lower-priced Chrysler Newport moves into old DeSoto market.
The Dodge Lancer is introduced for Dodge dealers as Valiant officially becomes a Plymouth in the U.S.
Clare E. Briggs is named general manager of the new Chrysler-Plymouth Division as Chrysler-Imperial and Plymouth divisions merge.
George H. Love is named Chairman of the Board and Lynn A. Townsend is named President of Chrysler Corporation.
In November Virgil Exner leaves Chrysler Corporation and Elwood Engle is named head of corporate styling.

The American Automobile Timeline 1899-1970 - Multimedial Historical Collection (Over 1200 files)
We do provide duplicates of the multimedial files of the Collection on a customized DVD-ROM. (1)
Almost all the digital copies of the films are good quality Hi-Res editable videos.
Hundreds of hours of footage from this Collection are available in different format, size and definition. We can suggest you the right one for the use you have in mind.
PRIVATE USE: home TV vision (DVD-Divx player), PC, iPod.
WE LICENSE FOOTAGE from our Collections for: multimedial creations on CD or DVD, TV commercials, film or TV programs, documentary Productions, web sites, marketing/ad campaigns, video email, electronic kiosks, trade shows, business seminars, cultural events, museums, expositions... and more.
Hi-Res videos from our Collections are available on DVD, CD or directly in your inbox. Clips and movies can also be downloaded from our servers using a PW or uploaded by us to your FTP.

(1) It is possible to obtain digital duplicates of the multimedial files (movies, videos, audio documents, and Virtual Reality files) from Romano-Archives for research, teaching, general interest user information, and private study purposes.
The files are available on a customized DVD-ROM.
Billing is done when the order is fulfilled. Payment instructions will follow. Normal turn around time for requests is 3 weeks. Rush (2-3 business days) is available for an additional fee of 40 Euros.
