Lauria

Lauria, land of Basilicata, is castled on the east side of Noce valley on which it appears with its shape that looks like the Italian peninsula.

  • The origin of the name

There are different hypothesis about the name of our town. Some people think Lauria comes from the Byzantine word Laurion that stood for a container in which they put oil. Others think it comes from Laura that, in the Middle Age, was a group of cells assembled around the church; somebody else believes it originates from the word Lagaria that meant "the lakes district".

We are on the slopes of the Massif of Sirino, near Pollino Park, at about 20 km from How you can get to Lauria

Both coming from South and coming from North, go out at A3 Salerno-Reggio Calabria turn-off, and follow, for some kilometers, the directions for the city.
