As the evening sky grew dark,
She looked at him and he felt a spark tingle to his bones.
'Twas then he felt alone and wished that he'd gone straight

They walked along by the old canal
A little confused, I remember well
And stopped into a strange hotel with a neon burnin' bright.
He felt the heat of the night hit him like a freight train

A saxophone someplace far off played

He woke up, the room was bare

Semplice scherzo del destino
Erano seduti insieme nel parco
mentre il cielo della sera diventava scuro,
lei lo guardò e lui sentì un brivido percorrergli le ossa.
Fu allora che si sentì solo e desiderò di aver tirato dritto
tenendosi alla larga da un semplice scherzo del destino.
Passeggiarono lungo il vecchio canale
un pò confusi, lo ricordo bene
e si fermarono in uno strano hotel con una luce al neon lampeggiante.
Lui sentì il calore della notte investirlo come un treno merci
muovendosi come un semplice scherzo del destino.
Un sassofono suonava da qualche parte lontano
mentre lei camminava sotto il portico.
La luce apparve improvvisamente attraverso un'ombra strappata
dove lui si stava svegliando,
lei lasciò cadere una monetina nella tazza di un cieco al cancello
e dimenticò quel semplice scherzo del destino
Lui si svegliò, la stanza era deserta
non la vide da nessuna parte.
Disse tra sè che non gliene importava,
spalancò completamente la finestra,
sentì un vuoto dentro che proprio non poteva spiegare
travolto da un semplice scherzo del destino
Sente il ticchettio degli orologi
e cammina con un pappagallo che parla,
la cerca sulle banchine di fronte al mare
dove vanno sempre i marinai.
Forse lei lo ritroverà un'altra volta,
ma per quanto tempo dovrà aspettare
prima che arrivi un altro semplice scherzo del destino?
La gente mi dice che è un peccato
un sapere ed un sentire esagerato.
Io penso sempre che era lei la mia anima gemella,
ma ho perso la chiamata.
Lei è nata in primavera, e io sono nato troppo tardi
diamo la colpa ad un semplice scherzo del destino.
