OTHER NOTES |
U2's fourth album was a live
recording, Under a Blood Red Sky. Although generally referred to
as U2 Live from "Red Rocks", this audio CD is not
entirely made up of tracks from the Denver Red Rocks show.
Instead, only "Gloria" and "Party Girl" were
recorded at that show, and most of the tracks were recorded in
St. Goarshausen, West Germany and were taken from a concert
broadcast on German TV. The misnomer comes from the Under
a Blood Red Sky video which was indeed shot at the Denver show
at the Red Rocks ampitheatre.
There are two very different versions of this
recording. During "The Electric Co." Bono
included a snippet from the song "Send in the Clowns"
and the recording was released without paying proper royalties
for this track. Legal action was taken, and U2 ended up
paying for the use of that 30 second snippet of the song.
Thus later editions of the recording had the "Send in the
Clowns" snippet edited out of the recording. Somehow
as we moved into the CD era, CDs were pressed with both versions
of the song - including the snippet and not including the
snippet. There have been other differences in the editing
of other tracks as well, but these are minor compared to the 30
second edit during "The Electric Co."
Some of these other minor edits are cataloged
below. I would love to hear of other variations, or where
your CD fits in below:

Both the USA and Canada versions of Party Girl
are missing the "one more" at the start of the
Australian version. On the Canadian version, this line of
Bono's is included at the end of I Will Follow. The track
lengths included in the track listing above are how they are
listed on the back of my CD. One immediately notices that
none of these match up with any of the above versions.
Many of the other differences in track times are where the
"live" recording of crowd noise between tracks has
been split.
