Along the coast road, beyond the Capo di Amalfi, is the small town of Atrani. Located at the mouth of the Dragone gorge, the town offers amazing sights from every angle. There are numerous historic stairs, or scalinatelle, that offer the best panoramic views of the area. Visitors find it intriguing to climb these famous steps to capture the scenery that can be enjoyed from the very top.

Many sites, such as Ravello, Scala and Pontone, are accessible by foot,. A short path leads from Atrani to Amalfi, where striking focal points and scenic landscapes can be seen. The coastline inspires strong emotions and is a magnificent location for a wedding that will be remembered for a lifetime. The village features local architecture that flaunts an authentic Italian style and during the time of the Maritime Republics Atrani was the residence of the noble families of Amalfi.

The 10th century church of San Salvatore de' Birecto in Piazza Umberto I is where the doges of Amalfi were crowned by solemnly placing the birecto, or cap, on the Doge’s head. During the time of the Maritime Republic Amalfi and Atrani were united as one town. With its Byzantine bronze doors that were cast in Constantinople in 1087, it is a remarkable landmark that lures visitors from all around the globe. Every four years, between the end of May and the beginning of June, during the Amalfi historic regatta, to remember the city's glorious past, a "Doge" is crowned. During a symbolic ceremony the titre and the keys of the city are given to a well known figure in the Italian cultural world.

The Church of Santa Maria Maddalena stands prominently in the “nativity village,” which is secluded in a small passageway next to steep, rocky walls. Constructed in 1274, it has a baroque frontage with a majolica dome and an impressive bell tower.

Atrani is a delightful village that consists of narrow streets, arches, courtyards and terraces. It has a small, sheltered beach from which  fishermen set out at night in their small boats equipped with “lampare” or jack lights.  The flickering lights of the “lampare”on the dark waters of the Mediterranean sea  are an unforgettable sight to behold!
