AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS SARATOGA (CV60)
"Invictus Gallus Gladiator"
They are the greatest war ships and the most greater to nuclear energy.
The first three unities of the class were cleared in 1967, in 1970 and in 1974. It followed in 1981 the order for the construction of the fourth unity, that is the T. Roosvelt. The others four had entered on call since 1989 to 1998.
The general lines of the hull derive from those some aircraft carriers of the class "Kitty hawk", as also the plant of the bridge of flight, the setup of the catapults, the disposition of the elevators.
The hull is of the type to open hangar; vertically the unity is divided in 18 bridges, superior half and inferior half to the hangar.
The island, situated very back to around two bystanders of the length of the ship, it is set out some lines of the hull and he/she leaves entirely I clear away the bridge of flight. It is divided in three overlapped bridges (operations of flight, navigation and operational command).
The C.O.C. you/he/she is divided in various places distinguished for function (aerial situation, situation navale, situazione take-offs and appontaggi, underwater situation, tactical general situation,....).
The unities of the class Nimitz II has been endowed with a system of control for the operations A.S: and of equipments for the employment of aereomobili A.S.
The 4 elevators, 3 on the astute side and one on that left, you/they can also transport two airplanes at a time, according to the type.
The 4 vapor catapults, gather in 2 couples and slightly convergent they are automatically checked by 2 systems ICCS (Integrated Catapult Control System) embarked on the Nimitz for the first time.
The bridge of flight has an angolatura of 15° in comparison to the ship and has 4 cables of arrest.
The hull is double and on the intercapedine reservoirs of water and foam are systematized fireproof. The structure of the hull is such from resitere and to also absorb very serious damages without opening the streets of water.
Longitudinally the hull is divided in 23 watertight paraties that create more than 2.000 compartments, transversally the compartimentazione is given by 5 following paraties on every side.
A great deal developed I am the systems of protection and control you damn among which the setups fireproof with doors firebreak, autonomous cenrali fireproof, fittingses of atomization; two fittingses of equilibramento, able to relatively correct consequent disbandments to damages in brief times.
The surface of the bridge of flight is of 360 mqs.
The catapults are long 94.3 meters.
The two nuclear reactors are of the type Westinghouse Á 4 W, the 4 TRs of the general Electric operate 4 aces with helixes tripale.
The external aces have moved they have moved from 2 TRs prodieri, those insides from those poppieris. There are two suspended rudders and compensated.
Lautonomia, that is the time of motion assured by the position of atomic fuel before he makes necesaria the substitution. you/he/she is calculated in 13 years with a route from 800.000 to 1.000.000 of miles.
They embark systems NTDS and SINS for the elaboration of the tactical data and for the inertial navigation.
I am very developed the sitemis included TLC those by satellite.
The aerial component is articulated on 2 hunting squadrons (20 F-14s "Tomcat"), 2 squadrons of diurnal attack (20 F-18s "Hornet"), 1 squadron of attack every-time (16 "Intruder"), 1 squadron antisommergibile (10 "Vikings"), 1 squadron of ECCM (4 "Prowler"), 1 squadron of restocking (4 "Intruder"), 1 transport airplane "Trader." And' also embarked a squadron of 8 helicopters A.S. "Sea king" or "Sea Hawk." Other configurations are activated according to the missions and of the employment.
Each element of the seal is significant for its relevance to the ship’s
namesake, Naval Aviation, naval service, and the United States. There are six
prominent features of the seal, beginning with the forty-one white stars.
These stars symbolize the namesake and the nation’s forty-first president, the
Honorable George H.W. Bush. After taking the executive oath of office, with his
hand on the same Bible George Washington used in 1789, President Bush inspired
us to use power to help people.
Rays of light that appear on the seal’s horizon represent President Bush’s
concept of a thousand points of light.
The graphic depiction of the aircraft carrier reflects the carrier as both a
symbol and instrument of American strength as “a force for good.” Bridging the
past, present, and future of Naval Aviation are the overhead profiles of the TBM
Avenger torpedo bomber, the F-18 Hornet strike fighter, and the F-35 Joint
Strike Fighter. The Avenger was selected for its relevance to President Bush’s
days as a Navy pilot.
The fouled anchors and shields, as seen centered on Naval Aviators wings, honor
the namesake’s aviation history. The youngest pilot in the Navy when he earned
his wings, he later flew an Avenger bomber during World War II. During one
combat mission, his aircraft received heavy anti-aircraft fire. Although his
plane was afire and severely damaged, he courageously completed his strafing run
before heading out to sea, where he bailed out and was rescued by a Navy
submarine, the USS FINBACK (SS 230).
Finally, the motto “Freedom at Work” is adapted from President Bush’s inaugural
speech, during which he said, “We know what works: Freedom works. We know what’s
right: Freedom is right.”
Operations: Operation Decisive Endeavor, Operation Southern Watch, Operation Enduring Freedom, War in Iraq, Operation Vigilant Resolve.
