The Phophonix Orchestra was born in december 2000 in the dismissed
industrial area
called ex-cerit that was occupied to
protest against the lack of spaces for art and
culture in the north-east of italy.A
militant beginning for an ensemble whose
goal is to explore the territories
of improvised music using jazz,ethnic music and
contemporary sounds as a starting
point.The orchestra is formed by 18 improvisers
from north eastern italy, some of
them are well-known protagonists of the international
jazz scene, his repertoire is
completely original,the leadership is collective.phophonix is an
artistic reality that is deeply
grounded in his home land but fights against localism.looking
back at the utopistc efforts of the
avant-garde jazz,the orchestra goes for his own search ,
aware of the past and projected in
to the future.

the orchestra displays all his
tremendous timbric potential(between the ultra low didjeridoo
and the hig tones of female
voice),expressive,energetic.
The impact is

The strong soloists serveing a
collective project,the unusual strumentation,the balance
between written and improvised,the
workshop-like attitude make think about
phophoponics like a rising band in the improviseing big bands panorama.
