The TV-2 series, as the previous introduced TV-3 and the following TV-7 and TV-10 series, utilized the original Hickok circuit and was intended for the US military.

The TV-2 series, produced in sixtie's and  apparently designed by the Air King company, included four versions : TV-2/U, TV-2A/U, TV-2B/U, TV-2C/U. No substantial differences between these versions but only little aesthetical variations like the colour of the case or the P4 test bush-button (yellow in TV-2/U and TV-2C/U, white in TV-2B/U and TV-2C/U series).

The TV-2 is surely the most complex portable tester. Six meters and many setting functions ensure all possible check-up procedures. Naturally these testers are a bit complicated and require an accurate setup before the using. However the included roll-chart and its very extensive manual is a notable aid.  The main meter displays percent quality of the tube and not its direct Gm (transconductance) but the Gm value can be obtained by the use of a chart or some mathematical calculations. La serie TV-2, così come la precedente TV-3 e le successive TV-7 e TV-10, utilizzano lo schema circuitale originale Hickok ed erano destinati al Corpo Militare USA.

La serie TV-2,prodotta negli anni sessanta e apparentemente progettata dalla Air King Company, includeva quattro versioni:  TV-2/U, TV-2A/U, TV-2B/U, TV-2C/U. Nessuna differenza sostanziale tra di esse ma solo piccole variazioni estetiche quali il colore della custodia metallica o del pulsante P4 (giallo nella versione TV-2/U TV-2C/U e bianco nelle altre versioni)

Il TV-2 è sicuramente il più complesso fra i provavalvole cosiddetti portatili. Sei diversi strumenti di misura e moltissime funzioni assicurano ogni possibile controllo. Naturalmente questi tester sono abbastanza complicati e richiedono una messa a punto accurata prima dell'uso. Comunque la roll-chart e l'esauriente manuale sono di considerevole aiuto. Lo strumento di misura principale indica la qualità della valvola in percentuale e non direttamente la transconduttanza che può essere ricavata utilizzando le tabelle o calcoli matematici.
