My Scarto scorcher!
This is my "Scarto scorcher".This is made with all my scrappy spares:from the first allen screw to the body.It has been designed to face all the extreme situation (like the ones I'll show in my Amazing videos too!).Even if everything of this buggy is tinkered ...I notice it looks great! Maybe 'cause this kind of special racing buggy is my favourite!
The body is a Monster beetle's one (the one weared preaviously on my MB):all the 4 fenders are cut and some sand scorcher like decals are fake! The front bumper is the first one I owned (the one in the Sand rover kit):it has been layed broken for years in my drawer and for this special situation I decided to restore it and add some malleable plastic(to fill the void between the two broken and worn parts). The radio box originally was black painted(look at the one before my Rough rider resto) so I took off all the paint but the plastic wasn't anymore clear...now it was foggy:not so good for my best buggies but very ok for my Scarto! The motor is a very hard used(I used it to test and discharge my battery packs for years!) Mabuchi RS 540 S standard motor (painted orange) ...but a little modified..I mean I let it run free in a glass full of double malt beer to clean all the internal parts): this is a little trick I learnt from a R/C driver ( I met in the Hobby shop I use to go), that increase of 1500/2000 rev/min. more than normal revolutions! The heat sink and ceramic resistor are from my Monster beetle used spares. As you can see in the pix I re-created some broken and missed parts with malleable plastic (One pipe joint and one rear bumper arm). This plastic is fantastic and I use it often to restore some parts!(You put it in hot water after few second it becomes malleable so before cooling down you have to shape it as you want! After cooling it becomes hard and unbreakable! The only new one part is the speed controller: It's the one mounted on Fox,Hot shot etc...The front arms are fastened with bead bends to avoid to loose them during the race (some ballracers are very worn!).
That's all...I'm looking forward to letting you see it in action...in amazing actions...underwater action (my dream when I was 12!)...
10thAugust 2002...holidays are ended...today seems like a bad day...so much rain...rain?Nice day for my Scarto scorcher...lets go to the park!!!
Sorry
for any blurred pix..but I was by myself and
with a hand took pix and the other one drove my scarto !!!
|
End of Spring 2003...preparing my scarto to the deep dive of this summer:I replaced the mechanical speedo with an electronic waterproof one by Carson...and for an artistic touch I decided to paint in purple the body...(...dedicated to a very special girl...who likes this colour..so..here it is!!!)!
Battery and receiver..... I'll cover them with rubber bags... |
You can see here two leaden weights to add to the chassis...this to increase the negative trim during the deep dive....
Just some pretty rubber bags ... |
Let's get sealed... |
Oh...front bumper in purple too!!! |
|
A white rubber bag:useful and cheap replacement for rubber switch cover... |
|
And still an hard "silicon sealing" job is gonna wait for me...all over the plastic radio box... | Here some pix on the "Dunes" beach in Porto Cesareo...water is so clean and clear like tropics... | This was the perfect day... | It was a very nice morning....6.15 A.M ...no waves..perfect for a dive...but unfortunaly I hadn't the camera and the Scarto aren't all sealed yet!!! |
Oh...crystal water...
|
|
Down hill..... | Look
at the video...
Not so good...I was just by myself(drive & use the camera at the same time...) due to early morning...and sea was a little bit angry...too many waves... |
