 Caccini’s singing art

Never before the Preface to the Nuove Musiche of 1601 by Giulio Caccini could reach such a big audience as it will now thanks to the publication of its original anastatic print. For the first time in the history of discography the music pieces contained in the above mentioned preface are performed in accordance with all the original expression marks (crescere e scemare della voce, cascata scempia, cascata doppia, ribattuta di gola, esclamazione languida, esclamazione spiritosa, sprezzatura, trillo, gruppo); the song “Io che dal ciel” from the Intermedi Fiorentini of 1589, originally sung by Lucia Caccini, is here performed for the first time; and this is also true of “Favellare in armonia” from the Dafne scene (Euridice 1600). Finally, for the first time Caccini’s madrigal comes back to life in the magnificence and expressive variety originally demanded by him: after four centuries we can listen again to “Amarilli” in the full expressive richness given by all its original “esclamazioni”.

The special quality of the recording can render, as never before, the wonderful voice of Nella Anfuso in all its splendour.
