"Legolas che monta a cavallo: (questa scena) e' quella maggiormente applaudita dal pubblico. Come e' nata questa scena?"
RT: "Ho gia' visto delle reazioni mentre facevamo il montaggio del film, e ho sempre pensato, 'beh, cavolo, vogliamo davvero fare questo?' Quella ripresa e' un colpo accidentale, ma
(Peter Jackson) non voleva un momento semplice. Io dicevo: 'Mettiamo Legolas a cavallo in un modo convenzionale.' E Peter diceva, 'No, no. Io voglio qualcosa di completamente diverso; dopotutto, sai, Legolas e' un elfo; e deve avere un modo speciale di montare a cavallo.' E questo e' il genio di
Peter: lui sa dove spingere e cosa fara' applaudire il pubblico. Quando lo abbiamo proiettato la prima volta in
publico... Wow!"
(I asked Richard Taylor, one of the producers of The Two Towers, "Legolas mounting the
horse: it drew the biggest cheer from the audience. What was the genesis of that
shot?"
"I saw some reaction from when we were mixing [The Two Towers], and I always
thought, 'Well, gee, do we really want to do that?'" said
Taylor. "That shot, it's an incidental beat, but [Peter] didn't want a simple moment."
"I said, 'Let's just put [Legolas] on the horse sort of in a conventional manner.' And
[Peter] said, 'No, no. I want something completely different; after
all, you know, Legolas, he's an elf; he's got to have some special way to get on the
horse,'" said Taylor. "And that's Peter's genius: he knows where to push and what is going to get an audience to
cheer. When we first showed it to a public audience. Wow!")

E poi c'era la
scena di Legolas del "surf sullo scudo". Credo che ci
siano volute circa 10 riprese, con Orlando imbracato nei cavi che
andavano per tutta la lunghezza delle scale. Lo scudo era fissato ai
suoi piedi, e la sfida per lui era avere un aspetto leggiadro in
quell'ambientazione malferma. Ha fatto un buon lavoro.

there was Legolas' "shield surfing" scene. I think it took
about 10 takes, with Orlando harnessed onto a cable that ran the
length of the stairs. The shield was strapped to his feet, and the
challenge was for him to look graceful in this wobbly environment.
