John Adams: Unsung Hero of the American Revolution
Examines the role Adams played during the Independence movement.
Perhaps the Adams Family would have received its fair share of credit in American history if their papers had been more generally available to scholars for research, this not occurring until they were deeded by the Adams Manuscript Trust to the Massachusetts Historical Society in 1956, whereupon efforts to study and publish the materials began in earnest
Notes 1) The Adams Papers; Adams Family Correspondence, 2:27-33, L.H
The letters are presently located at the Massachusetts Historical Society 'to which the ADAMS MANUSCRIPT TRUST by a deed of a gift dated 4 April 1956 gave ultimate custody of the personal and public papers written, accumulated, and preserved over a span of three centuries by the Adams family of Massachusetts.' 2) Adams would often write more than one letter in a day, and then send several days worth of letters to Braintree, mostly through the favors of friends who were heading back towards the Massachusetts area and who would venture to Braintree to deliver the letters, and sometimes by the post office whose services he helped improve while at the Second Continental Congress
3) The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, 1:290-291, 298-299, edited by Julian Boyd, Princeton Press, 1950
